This is the NON USB model

Got it off of CL today from a nice young man about to upgrade to a Pro-Ject

He is the original owner and apparently kept really really good care of it... Even has a Ortofon 2M Red mounted on the arm

I had to readjust the 2M Red a wee bit and flip the switch under the platter so to use my TC-760LC phono-pre and that was it

I've regretted not getting this TT from that pawn shop for about 1 1/2 yrs. So I saw this one yesterday and the rest is history

On a more serious note : I want to see/hear how it sounds spinning 78
 
You know... I love my Dual 1019 but she is quirky sometimes , maybe this PL120 can takeover the 78 duties from her
 
Did you consider having the KAB 78 modification added to your SL-1200Mk2 instead of adding a less competent TT to your collection? I'm sure the SL-1200Mk2 would be a better performer doing 78rpm.
 
Well... The 2M Red is one heck of a tracker :yes: Nice sparkly highs too

Anyhow , removed the stock slip mat and put on the 1/4" rubber mat. Puts VTA adjustment in a wider range. Also put a Concorde OM30 on

Very nice changes :music: Of course the OM30 $hould sound better

May put 4-5 O-rings on the arm later

Yes I have... Wish I did it from the get-go. May still do it but this TT + 2M Red was <50% than what it would cost me to ship & pay for the 1200 mod.

I'm not complaining about Kevin's prices , just stating a fact
 
Frank that's understandable, finances have to take priority and the PL120 will tide you over for 78 until the funds are available for the KAB 78. Having one table that can do it all, 33/45/78, would be ideal.
 
Especially when you find those real early 78's that are actually 83 rpm, and other speeds. The PL120 has a large speed adjustment range :)

It runs with Shure M97Xe real well into an external phono stage.

But, I like the back side of the slip mat for 78's as it's softer and they sound fine - being big old dense discs. Experiment and see what works.

The O rings in a sort of logarithmic pattern out from the gymbal area might be quite interesting :scratch2:
 
A few years ago when my SL1600MK2 broke and there were no parts to fix it, and money was tight, I got one. Took the ADC ZLM I had in the 1600 and put it in the AT120 and it has been my turntable since then with no regrets, specially for the price. I only had problems with the VTA adjustment not lowering far enough, but recently I got a 1/4 inch supermat from KAB and problem solved. Enjoy it my friend.

I see some folks cant get over the AT thing...think they would suggest a broken table before conceding that maybe they don't know what the "blank" they are talking about ...OH WELL...

Great table I do believe... Just a headache changing carts if switching back and forth --- I dont even like changing HS of my SL1200 anymore.

Just leave the Dyna alone :smoke:

I do sort of miss interchangeable headshells BUT once the OC9 gets back on there...it is NOT moving...


I have been itching to try some 78's and you might have given me a perfect use for the AT ...Thanks !!!

OK, NOW I get why people are going nuts about this table. I read a thread about them on another forum, and it just didn't make any sense. So, you're essentially using it as a drive-system/platter for spinning 78's, and you're just substituting everything else, right? OK, now I see the point. The 78 thing is just a novelty for me at the moment, since I really don't have much of a 78 collection, so I'm OK with my 1019, but I'll keep an eye on this topic.

So, this thing is that stable at high speeds with that motor/platter? And dynamics are okay and all that? I assume it's gonna' have a more-modern sound, tonally-speaking, than your 1019, but using an old cart probably helps (like an old Empire or Pickering).

Depends on what you mean by nuts

There are those of us that know it is a pretty awesome BUDGET table. It is a budget table but holds up very well in terms of price/value in its class up to tables costing twice as much.

Then there are those going nuts because they want to bash the table even though it has proven itself to be pretty decent.

I am in the first camp with the latter just being ...Nuts...LOL

I don't know what "modern" sounds like but the internal preamp does color the sound output, even when you set the switch to "bypass" mode. There have been a few people who have removed the USB/internal preamp circuitry completely. If you want to play 78's and want to buy a new turntable to do it, it's probably one of your best options if you don't want to lay out too much cash.
