Audiogon fails to impress

It was money driven. Pure and simple. I've seen greed destroy once great forums as well as sites like that. Mucked up with advertisements and loops that try to get you sucked into buying something. Shame shame...

I will say this, though. The site was bland and tasteless. It was due for an overhaul. Their error was in making the changes before they knew what they were doing... It's going to be good to see a fresh and functional website that has the looks and feel of a refined and current website. Let's just hope they rebound and we can all enjoy their services once again.

Audiogon classifieds search feature repaired

Today, I was able to search and find my favorite brand and items without finding dozens of cross-linked items I didn't want to see. Although the seach results were accurate, they were still fewer than before the big change. Looks like some folks are waiting before listing new stuff for sale.

I like the way you can filter the search on a price range. Searches seem to be getting better, but I miss the old format that lists by type of product.

Also, you used to be able to click on a zip code to see where it was. Now you need to open another app for that. USPS has a good one for those not aware of it.

If it works there must be something wrong with it... It's depressing. You just know that if it's good, easy to use, somewhat unique in presentation, and looks like it was done by people who actually have invested something of themselves in the end product, it's doomed. You don't lose customers. You just give them away.

I used to go there daily (almost) as many here did/do. I for one can't get past the first page without cringing. I have to say, I'm probably 'done'. How many times have we seen good intentioned (or arrogant!) engineers figuring out how to do something and then doing it, without first understanding their users and use cases? Probably as many times as we've seen those same good intentioned engineers figuring out how easy it will be to sell whatever it is they can build. Don't get me wrong, not ALL engineers are guilty of this - so please don't flame me here!. But doesn't it seem like some techies figured out more features were better, when in reality the site wasn't broken for most of us?

hmmm... maybe Craigslist.org is next? Yeah, they need a new interface, because the one they have isn't 'new enough'.

Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius -- and a lot of courage -- to move in the opposite direction." - Albert Einstein.

Once and former Audiogon customer/buyer. Craigslist devotee!

CAM is no hell... But it's free to post.

In Victoria BC, where I live, we have "Used Victoria", a website devoted to buying and selling anything you got or need. (Think CL with a decent user interface). It's part of a Canada-wide network (Used Vancouver, Calgary, etc.)

What's particularly interesting is the sheer amount of audio equipment - home and pro - that is for sale on Used (Greater) Victoria, and the rest of Vancouver Island. Not a lot of people on this island(s), so audio fans must abound. Maybe there is just nothing else to do. (well, almost nothing...hehe)

from the update blog

" the update is nearly compleat. we are slowing turning on user accts. please be patience and your acct should be accessable soon."

If their 'update competence' is on par with their spelling and grammar, soon might be longer than they think...

It may die

:thumbsdn:
Just talked to 2 AG vensors:
Ferrari, who sells large amounts of great jazz vinyl and is a wonderful vendor:
(sic) I don't know WTFs going on-I'm out of business for now. If it's not resolved and soon I'll have to take my business to EBay much as I hate to.

And another very high end vendor that always has 10-20 ads going, and will remain anonymous: I don't know, but they may be going under.

Color me pissed!! How could this fail? What the hell's the problem?
I found and purchased a lot of good stuff trough AGon and I miss my fix!

It seems to be working much better now. And search is returning relevant listings without a bunch of other junk thrown in. I still can't find a way to search by zip code but they've said they're going to have that. I was able to leave feedback on an item that is here in my possession, that the site says is still for sale, so some things are still wonky.

Went back yesterday and can confirm it's working much better. However the new search engine isn't even close to the former in sophistication. Also decided to finally take the plunge on 50/60s NOS tubes and communicating with the seller is now more difficult with the upgrade. Here's hoping it doesn't lose a significant number of buyers and sellers.

I made an offer on something - no emails, no response at all from seller. I have no idea if he even got the offer! Not good...

Still getting Application Error, it still sucks bad. :thumbsdn: I hope they loose a significant number of buyers and sellers and revert back to the old A'gon.

1.) It still seems much slower than before the upgrade (sometimes it works fast but not always).
2.) Ads are difficult to read (smaller font)
3.) Browse Listings By Category: click on any category and it takes you to "Featured Listings". Then you have to click another button to find the classifieds. When the list appears its not sorted in any definable order, seems totally random, i.e., newest listings are not on top.
4.) Sold ads are gone, no way to see what a recent item sold for so you can compare if a similar item is priced fairly or overpriced (I loved seeing what gear sold for so I'd have an idea what a good deal is).
5.) No way to search by zipcode

I miss the old A'gon.

Fubar!

For today there is 1 active auction; 4 for Sunday.
There used to be 20-30/day.

My transactions shows that I didn't win or buy 5 albums and a $600 amplifier that are in my house!

Click on ending auctions and up comes classifieds!!

And the search by zipcode as well as the click on sellers zip=tells location function are major losses.
And not seeing what stuff sold for as it passed below the "now" timeline is a loss-but perhaps that function works and nothing is being sold?? WTF
