Audire Audio Components

I'd buy it as a parts donor for your fully functional unit. The only thing that is sorta unobtanium is the MPQ6600 or Julius's replacement for that part. Maybe somebody has figured that out - but I don't know who that is ? In servicing these amps for a number of years -the only consistent problems were the MPQ6600 issue (which was available from Julius at the time) and a batch of bad power supply capacitors -and Julius supplied us with those as replacements. Are you talking about a Diffet 2 preamp or a newer model power amp that came out after I was no longer servicing audio equipment ? Come to think of it - I'm not sure we ever had a defective pre-amp (and we sold lots of 'em).
Hi. Thanks for the reply. It's a model 2. 100 wpc. 1 transformer. 2 caps the size of coke cans. No power button. I believe it was normally sold with the preamp which I don't have. Has a green led that stays on when power is on as well as 2 other leds that glow yellow, then red as you approach clipping levels(which I've only done once). Cheers

I have an Audire Mosfet Forte and believe it is down on power in the right channel. I would love some input on what to focus on first or if any of you have had this problem in the past. Please advise?

Please write me direct if possible.

Thanks,

I was on the Parlando wagon for while. then I got one, compared it to my otez, the otez is still here, the Parlando was sold. Not saying it was bad, just added heat , power consumption and overall I thought the Otez had far better control over my Nautilus 802's ( and Totem Element Fire). Would I own another one , sure but it's certainly not a replacement for the Otez. Sonically my pair of Monarchy Audio SM70 PRO sounded as good and are a whole hell of lot easier to move around :) So certainly grab a Parlando if /when one shows up but I wouldn't overlook the OTEZ, Julius himself was pretty well stoked on how well the Otez performed ( it's Class A throughout , until the outputs if I'm quoting him correctly)

The Forte is also a favorite. I dig those amps.

Thanks Bostown.
I'll take your lead and perhaps pick one up. I know of a few that are available right now. I still like the Class A Parlando and have heard one that is quite special. It had Ring-emitter transistors in it. No doubt it was a special amp. Julius used these transistors in his top shelf amps. I'd buy that amp in a snap but I want it in the size format of a Parlando / Otez and my buddy ain't selling. Maybe I'll look in to picking up an Otez and hold out for one down the line.

Is your buddy the guy who goes by Audire1 or something like that?
just in the past week 2 different pairs of Audire speakers showed up at auction, one pair sold, which surprised me. Theres a set up now as well. They look nice but Im not familiar enough to make an assessment worthy of buying ( especially at the asking prices) , and well , I have far too many pairs of speakers that would be easier to find homes for should the need present itself.

Audire components have always intrigued me. I missed out on a good condition Forte mosfet variant once for a good price. I was sad. Who knows, maybe I will come across another one in my audio travels.

Just bought a Audire Mosfet Forte amplifier with only balanced (well XLR connectors) inputs.
Wanted a small but powerful good sounding amplifier.
I've read all the posts here and got a bit anxious on the MQP-6600 part and the oscillation issue with input cabling longer than 3 feet that's less than a meter even.
Do all Audire amps possess this erratic behaviour or only the oldest ones like the Model 2?

Schematic is the BJT version.

The MPQ-6600 is something that either works (amps are dead silent normally) or is obviously bad (very hissie noise) . Lots of these amps are working just fine to this day. The Forte may "only" be 125 watts per channel- but it's very high current and we routinely demoed it against 200 wpc amps that it would walk all over and sit on. Here's the thing with input cabling - there are likely a few dozen of these amps still making music in the Milwaukee area and almost all have input cables over 3 feet. In today's audio world -every possible way of attaching a cable to a RCA plug is tried and probably offered for sale by someone. If the cable does not offer adequate shielding from RF -the Audire won't like it -MOST RCA cables will work just fine. Conventional XLR's were designed for long cable runs - the shield is completely separate from the - signal and (someone who has seen something different feel free to correct me?) -I have never seen a XLR cable wired any differently -so your XLR amp will have no problem as long as you use bog standard XLR cables to drive it.
Enjoy- these amps are a treat.

Thank you for your swift reply.
What I find a real tour de force is that Audire managed to squeeze in two big EI Core Xformers, 8 large can capacitors in such a relatively small package and still got room to fit in the other necessary components.
I know that Mark Levinson (Madrigal) used CAD/CAM software to squeeze their huge dual mono ML-3 in a No.23 but I reckon Audire Inc. did not have that kind of tooling.
In also understand that there easy to service ergonomically.
I'll try one on my QLS's see if it's gonna clip soon or not.

Julius's background was being on the team that designed the Saturn V - he was/is one of the more sophisticated audio designers I ever ran into. It takes chops to make less = more. His only failing was probably a result of his background in a field that used checklists - his equipment wasn't idiot proof. The guy who turned off one of his amps and then unplugged a input cable before waiting for the PS caps to bleed off was likely to have his four beer buzz destroyed (and maybe need new speakers too.). The comment we heard over and over again from new Audire customers was - WOW -the bass ! . Because everything from the Forte up in his line doubled down as impedance dropped - they really grabbed woofers and hung onto to 'em. We always felt the Forte was the sweet spot in the Audire amp lineup.

Yeah I read somewhere (maybe also on AK;)) that he was involved in the Apollo program.
Maybe I can power the Watkins woofers on my QLS's if the bass is that good. I'll give that I try certainly.
Could not find which output and/of driver MOSFets the Forte uses.
Wish I had a more decent schematic than the one I supplied today.

It says MOSFET on the back of my Audire Forte :)

One of my Fortes is the MOSFET version too (output transistors are IRF9130 and IRF130 if I recall correctly).

Hey Zarathustra, can you send me a hi-res JPEG of that Forte schematic you posted earlier in the thread? I have had no luck finding one anywhere and I would be very grateful!

Sure but I got a JPEG too, so I have not the original paperwork. I'll PM you.

Thanks for the information regarding the MOSFET types.
Are the other transistors the same as on the schematic? Or are there also MOSFET drivers?

I haven't lifted the board off of the heat sink yet to see if the two drivers are bipolar or MOSFET, but the transistors near the MPQ6600 are bipolars.
