Avatar story?

I am just curious about this. There are some interesting avatars on here. Is there a story behind yours?

Mine is pretty obvious to people raised in the 60's since my last name is Chumley!

Whenever I change mine, someone always pipes up and says they miss it, so I put it back! Gotta give the public what they want :D
I spotted mine on a website devoted to selling vintage gear and parts and appropriated it, seeing as it's related to vintage gear and all.
I've wanted to change, but have not yet been able to come up with a better one.

Tom

EDIT: Of course, Hallowe'en is coming up...:D

Mine came from the fact that I'm a big TNG fan, but also because I've always felt that Jean-Luc Picard was the most skilled diplomat that I'd ever seen, on or off screen. In the episodes, his decisions and speech were very thoroughly thought out, and words carefully selected.

It's an image that I felt that I wanted to portray here on AK......it was either that, or that picture of a redneck sitting on a toilet outside his trailer ;)

Kirk vs. Picard

:lmao:

On topic, I've had my avatar with this name for a few years on other boards. Goes with the name & let me combine a love for devices that make noise (guns, audio gear, cars, metalworking, etc.).

A very early lineup of Matt Polk's speakers (the original Monitors 7 and 10) from a very early Polk brochure, from Polk's first dealer (Soundscape, in Baltimore), from whom I bought my Polk 7A's, ca. 1978.

OK, so Polk ain't AR/KLH/EPI/Genesis/AVID/ads/Cizek (or even Bose) but they've been pretty durn successful for a bunch of Baltimorons...

i don't know how to do avatars, even after repeated attempts and looking at the instructions on the site a half dozen times

Mine stems from my genealogical research. I discovered a young cousin at some remove and she started signing her emails as Piglet, when I asked her what the significance was, she wrote that that was what her Dad had called her, so I began signing mine as Eeyore. Perhaps we will find the $$ to get over to England sometime in the near future because I have found four cousins there that I would truly love to meet.

A friend of mine had made me a Qui-Gon-Jin costume for Halloween a few years ago, but when too many people started calling me "Jesus", I said the hell with it, let my hair down, and this avatar is my now permanent costume.

I am an organist, and this is my organ: the 1992 Eccles Memorial Organ, built by
Kenneth Jones and Associates of Bray, Ireland, installed at the Cathedral of the Madeleine in Salt Lake City. 4,066 pipes, 66 ranks, five divisions, mechanical action with electronically assisted registration memory.

The picture shows only the middle section of the organ.

On #97, kiss my ass ;)

Mine is from a Time-Life book on the 1920s, a detail of a comic out of a tabloid. The subject was part of a scandal in which she married a much older man who proved to be quite eccentric. I just thought it was funny. I'll probably change it soon; takes some work for me to figure out how to size something to go on here.

Mine's in honor of International Talk Like a Pirate Day, but I'm going back to my snapshot of Luther Allison at Summerfest in Milwaukee, circa late 70's

Kinda obvious, I guess. My G-8000 is my daily driver.

Paul

PS: Re: Kirk vs. Picard.

In last week's Boston Legal (BTW, that is Kirk masquerading as Denny Crane), Kirk offer this line to Alan Shore (James Spader) immediately after he turned out the light in the shared room at the fishing lodge in B.C. - 'Don't take this personally' - and rips a gigantic fart!
