I'm shocked that nobody has mentioned Iron Butterfly yet. I only like one of their songs, so it's a good thing that it takes up one whole side of the album. I have the MoFi "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" gold CD, but I usually just punch up that second half of the album, and maybe the live and single-edit versions that come after the long album version.
Regarding Head East, they had a few small hits along with "Never Been Any Reason" (I have the album, actually... Good album). And Focus was a kickass band that had it's time in Europe. They just never caught on in the states, aside from "Hocus Pocus".
And normally, I would have added Billy Thorpe to this list, simply-because I didn't have the album, but now I have the LP, and I like it.
And regarding that awful "Go For Soda" song, well, it sucks real, REAL bad (I bet he hopped off the wagon pretty-quick... Sobriety wasn't THAT cool... not even in the mid '80's).
Also, I would have added Paperlace, but then I finally heard "The Night Chicago Died" again after like 30 years, and I realized that I only liked it back when I was a kid BECAUSE I was a kid. Hearing it now makes me feel kinda' stupid for liking it so much in the '70's (I used to listen to it all the time).
And anybody who mentions It's A Beautiful Day needs to hear their debut album in it's entirety. It's a classic.
