Who in ya'lls opinion made/make the best monster speaker? Parameters are it has to have at least a 15" woofer and be available to purchase today for less than $1000 a pair.

I had quite a bit of ideas until the less than $1000 part.
With this restriction, I'd have to say the Cornwall. Or one of those multi way fully horn loaded cinema speakers that reach to the ceiling that you just happen to get extremely lucky and find them in your local thrift store for $40.

Why at least a 15"? For big bass?

My IMF's have 8"x11" bass woofers and produce bass down below 20hz no problem. They have plenty of bass thanks to their transmission line design.

Oh, and they're monsters. 42" high on their stands, 20" wide, 19" deep and weigh about 100lbs each.

Yeah- big woofers might be more obvious, but my 10in woofers (SPL Monitors, probably not a contender here) go down to the 20s.

well you said bass...so cerwin vega vs-150 or d-9's come to mind for party rock and roll...but I would go with the Cornwall's

Are you talking "new" or used? Must they be current or recent production?

My simple answer is usually the JBL L7. They're a 4-way with a very powerful 12-inch side-firing woofer that plays better than most 15-inchers. I know what they're capable of because I have two pair and my main system has these 18-inch 4-ways to compare them to (you did say "big bass" right?).

That's a 4-inch voice-coil under that dust-dome and the little mid-bass is a 10", just to give you a sense of scale:

I would think you'd have a whole lot more options for finding the sound that you want by just choosing speakers you like the sound of, and adding a big ol' sub for big, big bass. I have 43"x10"x12" Snells with an 8" woofer that extend to the mid-30's. They make my chest vibrate pretty well. If I were to cross them over at 40 and add a big ol' sub, I might very well hurt myself. Unless, of course, I'm misunderstanding what your goals are. Are you after a visually imposing speaker as well as big, big bass?

wow them are some bad ass looking speakers i like it

Definitely contenders. The SPLs can put the hurt on a lot of speakers with much larger woofers.

Useable output below 40hz takes a LOT of power and very, very good woofer drivers. Don't go by your speakers' specs on this regard. Use some kind of measurement device if you really want to know.

Klipsch Epic Series CF4

A pair of Klipsch CF4 use dual twelve inch drivers and a very large horn. These two woofers push almost one and a half times as much air as a single fifteen inch woofer can. They look great and sound better They easily meet your budget with cash to spare if you pick up. Did I say they will play loud? Best regards Moray James.

Polk SDA 1Bs, with four 6-1/2" mid/woofers and a 12" passive radiator they're flat to 30HZ. They weight 85lbs each and can handle up to 500 watts.

Tannoy Saturn S10s. They have two 10" drivers, so they have the equivalent cone area and air-moving capacity of a 15". They will definitely rock your world, and sound better than most anything else that you can buy pre-made for the budget stated.

Otherwise- find some cabinets to repurpose, and build an E-wave with a good 15" woofer...

Regards,
Gordon.
