I got em too

nice highs, good bass. surrounds always seem to need replacing on the ones I find. I've done 2 sets. also have the A-100 and the A-70 II

I think you'll like em.
 
I like the A100 and up in that series. The 70's sounded very dark, almost veiled to me.

Good sealed box bass in all models.

How do YOU think they sound? That's the $64,000 question.

No, but earlier I was thumbing through old Stereophile and Absolute Sound issues from the 80's, so blame them, not me.

We sell Boston where I work, and since we do speaker repairs, I also get to see many older Boston speakers, mostly in need of just foam surround replacement.

I've heard the A70s many times, and I will say- they're STILL VERY IMPRESSIVE speakers. Great bottom end, smooth tonal balance. A bit laid back and "reserved" for some, but VERY well behaved.

I've also heard lots of pairs of A100s and A150s, and occasionally an A200 and A400. All of the 3-way versions (those with the 4" cone midrange) are very well balanced systems...

It's cool how Boston always seems to "ratchet up" the performance, on each new model, even though the older ones are STILL quite good to listen to. The new VR series (especially the VR2 and VR3) are pretty incredible... the most "dynamic" Boston speakers I've ever heard. Hard to NOT like those, they just are so EFFORTLESS sounding...

I just hooked a set up in my bedroom and they sound grand. Big bass right now, but they're on the floor. They're hooked up to a Pioneer SX-737 and I was really impressed with the soundstage and imaging too.

Played Willie Nelson's "Milk Cow Blues" a bit before be the other night and was pleaseantly surprised at how good they sounded. They replaced some DCM TimeWindows I sold and on first listen seem just as impressive.

I just don't understand why something that sounds this good is so cheap online? The BA A40/60/70 series seem to be real bargains these days, often going for less than $50/set.

I recently aquired a pair of A70s that were just refoamed. Of all the speakers I have they have become my new favorite.

I agree with everything that others have said but what I noticed the most was the lows, they are deep and CLEAR and at low volumes you loose nothing of the detail.

I highly recommend them.

Now I just have to get a pair of A40s I have sitting here refoamed.
Boston Acoustics is right up the street from me in Peabody so, I just might go up there and get replacement drivers instead of refoaming. Probably cost about the same.
 
I don't know about that. A guy I sold some BA's to got the woofers fried by his son. Replacement 7"ers cost him $55 apiece. Refoam is MUCH cheaper.

I guess I can since these Ive had since 2002 and where allready a bit beat up! Its time for some new Boston's!

Also what bookshelf speakers are good?
 
TA, I called BA and replacement drivers for A40s are $36 apiece.

Your probably speaking of DYI refoam. I was talking about getting them done, about $30 to $35... no?

I haven't attempted DYI refoam yet. Although I'm getting close after reading all the posts here.
