Not familiar with them, personally. How did they look? Did you listen to them? Did you take any pictures per chance? Braun and ADS went kind of hand in hand there for a little while so they could be decent. Now, Braun is known more for electric razors. :D Were they reasonably priced?

I'm not familiar with Braun model numbers but Brauns were sold here as ADS speakers. It could be that there is a corresponding ADS model that you can find info on.

Braun/ADS speakers are very well thought of so, depending on the price and condition, they may be worth grabbing.

OK so i picked up the speakers today ,unfortunately the woofers on both speakers need refoaming,at least that helped with the price also they are labeled lc 1004/8 i still can't find any info on them,or they could say ic 1004/8 hard to say which.

They look very much like other Braun or ADS speakers I've seen except I've never seen foam surrounds on their woofers, only butyl. Nice looking, though, and I'll bet they'll sound good when you get them shaped up. Congratulations!

Okay, here's a little information on those speakers. The ic 1004 was part of the Braun "Concert Series", produced between 1977 and 1982. The line included models ic 1002 through ic 1005. Pricing was from $36.00 for the ic 1002 to $600.00 for the ic 1005. That makes the OP's ic 1004 speakers one down from the TOTL in that series.

The link that adam-ads posted takes you to a German site where there's a photo of an SM 1004, probably the same as the US market ic 1004. You can see through the grille that there's a 50mm (2") soft dome midrange lurking back there, not a 4" cone.

Good catch, Adam.

PS: next time you meet someone by the name of Nussbaum, say, "Hi, Walnut!"

I'm not at all sure about the mids. It's just that I'm used to seeing domes on the Brauns from that era and the mounting looks a little funky in the pic you posted.

US Market? Where did that come from? Gonna lay odds the ops mid says Westra on the back.

Who knows? Orion lists "Braun USA" as the marketer of the ic 1004. The ones on the German web site were SM 1004 but appeared to be the same speaker. That's at least suggestive of two versions of the same speaker for two different markets.

The dome Mid and tweeter were part and parcel of what made up Braun/ADS. The characteristics of those drivers were responsible for most of the ADS sound....I too think that the mid is a replacement....
that doesn't mean that they will not be good sounding only that they are likely not original......

Take a hard look at this picture http://www.audiokarma.org/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=267515&d=1302183453
No dome there, and those are guaranteed original, I got those speakers from the orig owner and have had them all out, and they all say westra. I understand the comparison between the models in question here, but Im saying dome mid is not 100% guaranteeed until the op gets back with what he found. Maybe his is a replacement, or not, but to get all over the case saying cant be because all Brauns have mid domes...only thing I can see now is that his are diff shape than mine.
Other thing is, his speakers are what they are, and they are nice regardless from what I can see. Here again I may be all wrong, but in the excitement of the detective work, the revelations and theories almost seemed a bit hard. Yes the facts are the facts, but I dunno, maybe Im the only one that caught that flavor...anyway, sorry, carry on.

Welcome to AK from another ADS lover!

How hard?;)

Nobody did that. Several of us have simply wondered about the history of those mids since they'e outside our personal experience.

but I dunno, maybe Im the only one that caught that flavor...anyway, sorry, carry on.

Any such flavoring on my part was completely unintended.

...anyway, sorry, carry on.

Roger. ;)

While we're on the subject of Braun/ADS drivers, has anyone ever seen foam surrounds on their woofers? I never have but everything else about the OP's woofers looks right to me.

John

Not all Braun speakers used domes.

Ok guys i took pic of the woofers and mids, from what i can see they are original the leads are soldered on and do not look like they were ever touched,my assumption is that maybe several mids or woofers could have be used in this box ,you can see the mid hole looks like it could except another shape mid if needed,it does not bother me if they have this mid or that woofer only that they sound nice, also thanks to everyone posting help identifying them as the reason we post here is to gain knowledge and hopefully help others as we all know as the years go by this type of data on vintage equip gets lost or forgotten at least here we can just search the data base.
