I'm glad I was wrong about the mid drivers and I apologize for any gray hair my mistake caused.

FWIW, ADS replace the dome midrange with cones in some of their later speakers and many people claim that the cones were better.

I had the IC 1002/8s. The surrounds are odd-sized and extremely hard to find. Mine were custom built.

Does anybody know what the difference was between the Braun ic(concert) series and the LS (not sure if it stands for anything) series?

I found some more info on the SM1004 in the German Braun Forum :

Hello to everyone the pic of the sm1004 are identical to my ic1004/8 except for the dome midrange,the woofers are identical with the foam surround, and i think it is probably due to the country where they were sold,also the badging on the back of mine say 8 ohm/90/120wn din 45573,i called a local speaker shop here in ca. and they charge $35.00 each to refoam them i don't know if they are worth spending that kind of money on them,i looked online but could not find a refoam kit for them and someone mentioned they were and odd size,hopefully someone can guide me in the right direction

I was beginning to wonder if anyone here but me thinks that's a really cool speaker and I found the lack of comments puzzling and a little distressing.

It seems the speaker is back in production by a German outfit that builds and rebuilds traditional Quad ESLs. About $5000 Euros a pair, what, $7000 or so? Not a bad price really.

Will they sell you the surrounds over the counter?

I would almost guarantee those to be well worth refoaming. I would try a little more with finding your own foams though. You may need to get a little inventive . I should think you would need three measurements to try and make the match, the cone diameter (to make sure the roll misses the endge of the cone) the id of the existing foam (taking note of the bare minimum diameter that could be securely glued on), And the od which minimum would be about halfway across the gasket. Max would be up to the edge of the frame I guess,or beyond and could be trimmed, however there again you have to watch where the roll ends up.
