Brent Jessee of Audiotubes.com retired, Audiotubes to reopen soon under new ownership

Well, I came to this thread AFTER having placed an order with AT . Jon was very responsive to my initial emails and accommodating with invoicing. It's been just over a week since I paid, will update as things progress.

m
over a week?
terrible service.

Is there so much business in the NOS tube world that a new business owner can't get it together? Is Jon really this busy, or does he just need help figuring out how to get organized? Truly perplexed here

Please do.

Maybe we should email him and invite him to join AK as a tube guru. Maybe that would allow him to stay involved in the tube world in a more relaxing kind of way.

My wild guess would be that Brent doesn't even want to see another vaccum tube for the rest of his life. 25+ years is a loooooong time to be coddling anything.
Best wishes on retirement, Brent!

hes not new to this.

I know Jon. He is a good guy. He is on the road most of the time looking for vintage equipment and vacuum tubes.
He had many of my Mullard Long Plate 12AX7 and Sylvania VT-231 tubes.

There are many excellent tube vendors, across the US, that supply dealers, like Jon, with vacuum tubes.
You can go directly to them and save $$. > Same tubes for less money. Yeah!

Most of these suppliers would love to have some business as they are sitting on big inventories of the tubes that are in demand.

I believe the site rules do not allow to name vendors if they are not a site or vendor supporter. I see this rule overlooked on many posts.
Most of these vendors are not known or are frowned upon because they sell on venues where tube quality is assumed to be lacking or non-existent.
These vendors have tubes with quality that equals or surpasses the current offering.

Many of these tube sellers either stay away from this site or are lurkers. They simply cannot talk about their systems and toys because they have a business that could be tied to the post.

Apparently Jon is a approved vendor so we can mention his business.

I believe that there have been threads that still exist that have asked where to buy tubes, capacitors, etc. and answers have included vendor names and websites.

this doesnt make sense to me. we talk about our favorite sellers, vendors and dealers, both amateur and professional, all the time, thread upon thread upon thread.

Links please, or it doesn't matter. As far as violating the Ak rules, I believe it is okay to mention where to buy tubes. This has been done routinely for the last 19 years I have been a member, here. If I'm wrong I'm sure the Mods will set me straight :)

the ones theyve had for years, both noval and octal. i thought they were designed by bob latino.
pretty sure Roy is or was the designer

either way you can purchase boards directly from Roy. He's got some revision for the driver board and a power supply board. His email is out there somewhere on the internet, I found it. He replied promptly when I was after a power supply board and the transaction went quick and smooth.

Roy has his email out on Dynacotubeforum.

Good news, everyone!®- tubes are on the way! I have been exchanging emails with Jon and he always responded quickly, apologized (multiple times) for delays, and thanked me for my patience.
I have no idea of the size of AT's operations but to me it does seem like he's really really busy and trying hard to keep things moving. (Also guess I'm a bit spoiled by Amazon next day delivery ;-) )

Supposed to arrive Saturday, can not wait to install and give them a listen.

cheers

That can happen. Click-check to see if the package is at the front door.

The FTC rule is that mail, web and phone purchases must be in transit within 30 days but with Amazon, this is a totally lost concept.

Well, USPS decided to hold on to my package over the holiday weekend, finally received the tubes late Tuesday. Installed them last night and am thrilled with the sound!!
This is my first set of Telefunkens, should have done this 40 years ago, lol.

Overall good experience.

cheers

Telefunken tubes are superb !
@marks2l , If you don't mind us asking, which Telefunken tubes did you buy,
at what cost ?
What is the guarantee ?

Not having a good experience buying tubes from Jon. Reached out and got very prompt replies, a promise of reasonably close and strong NOS tubes, followed by an invoice. Paid that evening but it took 2 weeks of prodding to get him to ship them out. I was really worried he would simply ghost me as a few times I didn’t get a reply at all. Even when he did finally ship, I still had to ask for tracking.

Received tubes today and they are clearly used tubes, 3 of 4 rebranded, one very dirty with remnants of sharpie on the glass. Only one of the 4 test as new. 2 are barely above min. I don’t understand why someone would take over this business if he’s going to piss off every customer in the 1st few months. Sometimes paying a bit more from a vendor is worth it for quality and peace of mind but I would never recommend buying from BJ.

Wow! Buying NOS tubes is becoming more of a crapshoot in the last few years.
only if you take more risks with your purchase, and the sure thing that was brent jessee is more of a crapshoot now. this guy took over a reputable, rock solid business with an airtight reputation, the gold standard of tube sellers in north america.
This may be the death of tube units, more than trying to keep these vintage units running.
by units do you mean NOS vendors? or tube audio gear? tube audio keeps getting more and more popular.

Once again, may I remind all of you that we have a sales platform, right here, in Audiokarma.
Requiring an annual, $25. Subscriber status, the AK Barter Town is comprised of many, fellow, tube audio collectors. Many of us are now of "senior citizen" status, willing to share our hoards.

Subscribe to AK and advertise on BT.

Place your Wanted to Buy ad and you will be pleasantly surprised at the responses and availability of classic audio tubes.
