This morning before work:

The Worst of The Jefferson Airplane I don't remember where I got this particular pressing, it was within the last two years. I was pleased to see it's a gatefold jacket and the LP is quite thick too.

Rick Okasec - Beatitude (lp)..an album that came out when I was in high school. I had it on a record club cassette and used to listen to it in my walkman walking around town as an angst-ridden teen. For some reason, it mokes me want to get The Del Fuego's S/T album.

Jazz Festival in Stereo - Near In and Far Out (lp)
One of my favorite album covers. And the music is good to match! (Seriously, without irony)

The fine red print under the track listing warns not to play it on mono equipment and not exceed 6 grams

Built to Spill - Perfect From Now On"Randy Described Eternity has got to be one of my favorite pop tunes of the last decade.

A little further up the West Side Highway, some Leonard Cohen - Songs from the Road.
That's the GWB (George Washington Bridge) rising up over the "D" in Leonard. And off the the right is the elevated roadway over 125th street.

Res - How I Do This was another one of the albums, along with Lambchop's "Nixon" that showed me that really awsome music was still being made. --this would have been around 2000 when I realized I didn't need to only look back in time for good music.

Also around that time, I discovered Modest Mouse. Here is Moon and Antarctica a modern classic if there ever was one.

I've been listening to a Modest Mouse CD called Rome lately, really good stuff.
I'll have to look into that one. Check out Lonesome Crowded West if you haven't already. I think it was the last album they did before they signed to Sony. (It's HDCD too FWIW)

Beethoven's 5th - Carlos Kleiber Vienna Philharmonic Orch.
(cd)

If you're ever wondering where to start with Beethoven's Fifth, this is a good place. It is a stereo recording (from the late 70's)
Product Description
Long regarded as the quintessential interpretation of the most popular and best-loved symphony ever written, this performance of the Fifth has everything: passion, precision, drama, lyric beauty, and a coiled fury in the first movement that sets your pulse racing from the very first note. Carlos Kleiber has made very few recordings in his distinguished career, but almost all are special. If you own no other copy of this symphony, this is the one to get. It comes with an exceptional performance of the Seventh--not quite as gripping as the Fifth, but definitely one of the great ones. There is classical music, and there are classic recordings of classical music. This one's a classic.

Grateful Dead - Felt Forum 12/05/71 bootleg LP (dead bootlegs precede cassettes, ya'know.)

I love the rather messy handwritten song list (the person didn't even know the actual song titles!)

It's in a plain white card-stock sleeve, but it looks like there was once a label glued to it. I ID'd it as the Felt b/c I'm familiar with this show fr0m back in my cassette days. (Phil asks as some point if someone is smoking coconuts)

I've has this LP for around 15 years now I think. (I've had this show on cassette since the mid-80's)
