No Pics At The Moment

But I'm using 2 M-80s to drive 2 pair of Maggies(SMGAs & MMGs) When I bought the first of the 2 Yamaha's I didn't realize it had a M-60 face plate,after buying the 2nd I noticed there were 2 extra buttons for the power display and thought maybe I had gotten scamed but a closer look told me it was in fact an 80 from the power meters,back plate and the extra 20 lbs difference in weight between the 2 models(yes I did actually weigh it)When I first bought a second unit,I hooked it up and within 10 minutes she went up in smoke.I didn't know whether to cry or kill the seller.I emailed him telling what had happened,the next morning he called to say he had another to replace it.Thank god they have both worked great since.Just the same next time I think I'll be looking at new pro series amps.

I'd like to add a two-channel amp to the mains of my Yamaha RX-V1300 for audio use in the 150 per channel range and up. The 1300 has 100 per channel now, but I'd like more and I'd like to run a safe 4 ohm load. Another wrinkle of my requirement is a common ground for my Polk SDA-1a speakers to run with the dimensional interconnect.
So here's my question for the Yammy experts:
Which amps should I be looking at for this purpose? I'm eyeing M-2, MX-600, M-65 and watching audiogon, CL and epay. Opinions?

you will be totally shocked at how much better a separate amp's 100wpc is going to sound. I had a yamaha rx-v800 and connected a Rotel rb-1050 (70wpc) to my main speakers, and it was total improvement! better sound-stage, tighter lows, more air around the instruments, etc. Go for it! that 1300 can't have a very beefy power amp section, I mean, not like you have an rx-v1 or better yet Z series, then you would dwarf the rotel even.

Yamaha YP-D10 turntable. Near mint cosmetically and in perfect working order. Picked it up at an Estate sale for $100--a steal considering the quality this top of the line Yammy circa 1976-77 when it sold for $600. Won't ever give it up. If I could just find a user manual.

You are right, i thought i posted pics but it was in another thread. Nice and clean B-2x BTW.

genewoodall, the YP-D10 is a really nice table the arm is supposed to be the raw model for the GT2000.

Yamaha M-2 vs B-5 (Anyone have a B-5 ???)

I recently noticed a faceplate difference in photos of the M-2 and B-5. On TVK, it notes the difference in the meter, but it does not mention the differences in the specs. There seem to be differences, at least between the M-2 specs on TVK, and the B-5 specs on www.audio-heritage.jp, as follows:

Power (8ohms, full range, 0.005%)
M-2...200wpc
B-5...240wpc

S/N Ratio (IHF-A):
M-2...127db
B-5...123db

According to the service manual the US model of the M-2 is 240wpc 20Hz to 30kHz into 8Ω with < 0.005% THD. The Northern European model is rated at 200wpc.

I believe that CDP is the one-and-only/awesome CDX-2020 (4 DACS), not the CDX-2000 (2 DACS)...unless there is a difference between countries/continents???

Yes it's the CDX-2020 Ti, but there was difference between EU and US. The PF-1000 was sold in silver with vineer plint only in the US, the PF-1000 in the pic you are refering to is a modyfied black EU model.

This is the US model.

I also notice when looking at http://audio-heritage.jp that many "special" Yamaha units (in this case, I am referring to metal with wood sides) never seem to have been offered in the USA, especially some of the DSP and A/V units. The AVM-3000 (7ch) amp looks very interesting.

The CDX-1120 also has 4 DAC's (the PCM58P-J) the same as the CDX-2020. The CDX-10000 has 2 DAC's, the PCM56P-K YM3404 Gold.

Yamaha DSP-A700

Have you all seen this rare stereo/HT/DSP unit? Mine is a DSP-A700 7ch DSP/Integrated (internals image attached). Also shown here is the Japanese version (DSP-107AST) w/ massive remote control from audio-heritage.jp

The CDX-1120 also has 4 DAC's (the PCM58P-J) the same as the CDX-2020. The CDX-10000 has 2 DAC's, the PCM56P-K YM3404 Gold.

The CDX-2000, 5000 and 10000 all share the same DAC (PCM56P-K) and laser (MLP-7), the only difference is the filter chip YM3404 where the CDX-10000 has the Gold extension but I have no info what this extension might cover.

The lower models like the CDX-1000 (YM3023) all have different filter chips.


Yamahalic there has alwayes been a tradision for special homemarket models in the far east, now and then you can be lucky and find one that was broght home by soldiers/sailors or who ever was stationed out there.

YAMAHA was my first real audio gear. I had receiver YAMAHA RX-330 and CDX-390. Very dynamic sound, I loved these units,but after one year I replaced to DIORA 502 hi-fi system . In receiver I had problems OLY with source selector, CD - good.

Just got a yamaha a-2000a (pics to follow) . Question what is the difference between this and he a-2000? I am missing one button beside the richness button. What is this button for. Is this a class A integrated? thanks
