You are spot on with the year but not with the first of, that was the Yamaha DMP7 from 1986! You can see where much of the later design came from.

I've always felt that the silver B-2 looked(though it definitely wasn't)plasticky.
I guess that's because I've never laid hands on a silver B-2(or UC-1).Actual tactile connection would dispel that misconception immediately. :yes:

I can partially answer that question:
Firstly Mark is always looking for the highly esteemed components which Yamaha made,and still makes.He is ever vigilant. :yes:
Secondly he has a circle of contacts who(knowing Mark's love of Quality Yamaha)are always willing to alert him if they see a Yamaha item which they think he may be interested in.The ears have walls.... :scratch2:

A100a Pro Amp
Have you ever seen a Yamaha A100a pro amp? I hope someone out there has one and can post some nudies of it. I found a 4 year old AK thread from the Real Mandak on this amp, apparently it was made for nearfield studio work with the infamous NS10 series speakers. In the interim, for your reading pleasure, here is a scan of an old pro catalog entry that I have on it.

I've come close to buying one off fleabay a few times but I've never known anyone that has one. I'd love to know what this little amp can do.

The A100a is a smallish size amp at slightly over 10lbs (50wpc @ 8ohms) from the dimensions in the catalog. Looks cool with the two channel meters in front. Interestingly, in the catalog, it is placed right next to the mighty PC4002M at 95 lbs (430wpc @ 8 ohms).
I'm not familiar with that amp. I think T-R-M is right about Yamaha intending the amp to have crossover appeal on the consumer side.
Nice CR-2020. The RX-Z9 is a beast :yes:

Thanks Mark. Hopefully, I'll get her fixed up this weekend. The Z9 is definately a beast, 66 lbs, 170 watts 7 channels driven, and 2 effects channels at 45 watts for a total of 9.1. Or 9.2 if you count the stereo subs it can handle. I really wasn't looking for anything that elaborate at the time, but I found a deal on craigslist that was hard to refuse. Considering that a CR-3020 weighs about the same makes me wonder about things though.
I almost forgot about this little beast. Its a RX-V1 I bought about 7 years ago. A classic, but not really vintage. It goes into protect mode, but seeing how I'm in the mood and have the service manual. I thought I give it a go and try to repair it. Great sounding, but lacks the newer features.

Right now, I only have two Yamaha pieces:
M2 amplifier
NS-1000M speakers
I just missed out on a GT-2000 turntable, which was the "watershed point" for me, when I shifted from accumulating too much gear, to trimming back on the gear, but I WILL still get one of them, one day.
Having visited Mark B and seen some of his spectacular Yamaha pieces, I've been keeping my eyes open for some of the bigger, rarer Yammies, but so far haven't found any. I've passed up on a number of lesser ones, in the meantime.
I did find a pair of 101M amps in a shop nearby. These amps are so ultra-rare that the Vintage Knob site calls them "invisibilia":

Unfortunately, the pair I found were in for repair/renovation, and NOT for sale, but perhaps that is best, as they'd probably cost enough to bankrupt a mere mortal like me. Sure were drool-worthy, though! :drool: :yes:
