With a foot in the pro world I can't buy that argument sorry, it is only the consumer world that has forgotten about stereo.
Or put in a diffetent way: music don't have to come with a picture! most forgot about this in the mid 90's and BPC 5.1 was all over the place. But not in the pro world.
The "problem" in the pro world is that now everything turns to self powered speakers, after class D amps got to the audiophile quality they put the amps in to everything. Soon we can wave goodbye to stand alone power amps, unless it is for "vintage" speakers.
BTW. I am still drooling over that silver A-1.
I think the MX-D1 is positioned as a consumer amp in the USA? It surprised me to see a new high power 2 channel amp from Yamaha. After the MX-1, I feared that the category might be no longer of interest to Yamaha, so I bought an MX-1 for myself when they were discontinued.
I never thought of the MX-D1 as a pro amp. It certainly seems capable. How is it positioned in Europe?
