Calling All Yamahas. Time to Post Your Pics

A CA-810 with a CT-800. Great little amp, not that impressed with the tuner.
As with all old tuners, it can probably use a bit of help. Suggest you think of sending it along to Punker X (Radio X in the ads at the bottom of every AK page) or dr*audio or DeWick Repairs for an alignment. For ~$75 you will have an excellent tuner.

I would say that the consensus is that the CR-x20 line is more substantial, but I'll say that I have the TOTL R-2000 and it is a very clean design and the power is great and sounds great, too.

Ohhh... Yamaha guys!!!

2) M-80
2) M-40
1) C-40
1) C-80
1) T-80

I use the four M-series amps in my HT running off an Anthem AVM 20 pre/pro

The T-80 and C-80 are in my bedroom system paired with a Levinson No. 23

I use the phono section of the C-40 to feed vinyl into my computer sound card for digitizing.

Needless to say, the HT rocks with those amps. They don't sound half-bad either. ;)

Thanks for the welcome. I finally found somewhere this fine gear is appreciated.

Just a quick question though...

All these amps are original and seem to be working fine and DC offset is very low. None of the caps appear to be leaking or bulging in any way.

Is it worth recapping as preventative measure, or leave well enough alone?

I say 'go for it'. In my experience, better caps equals better sound. But, that's one person's opinion. YMMV.

Let me be more specific. Black Gates in the phono stage of the CA-2010 made it a truly magic phono stage. Rest of the recap was with a mix of Panasonic FC/FM. Similar with the B-2....minimal number of BGs on ithe input circuit with the balance being Panasonic FC/FM. Main filter caps in the B-2 are Nichicon Gold, so no reason to change anything there, unless wanting more uf's.

I had an A-1 integrated amp from that same period. In the twenty years that I used it it blew out one dial lamp (actually a push-button lamp). Before I sold it I went over the adjustments - every last one was within spec! Yamaha used quality components and I have rarely had to replace caps on the units I service. I did look into the requirements for putting Black Gates (It is really funny as all the cheap stuff I have seen used Rubycon caps) into the audio path of a CR-2020. The list of caps took most of a page and my best estimate for labor was in the order of 12 - 14 hours. Given that you would probably need a second mortgage to buy that many BG caps I can guarantee that you would hear a difference afterward, your bank manager would tell you that you are hearing a difference, that is much easier than kicking your butt around the block in dismay.

How much do you like the component?

In my system I would (if I had the cash :tears: )recap my Kenwood 700C and my Yamaha B-2.I say this because they are the two amplification items which have shown themselves to have extaordinary performance in stock form.
The Yamaha C2x has some Black Gates as standard  and just about every other component was the best Yamaha could lay their hands on(circuit boards included).

By recapping are you guys meaning the entire board, or just the large PS caps?

Oh, and perhaps my biggest audio lament of all time? Remembering that I passed on a minty (and verrrrrry cheap) pair of BX-1's because I didn't know what they were at the time... Ouch, that blunder still hurts...

As little or as much as you wish. For me, primarily the signal caps and the PS caps, followed by the filter caps, unless there is a problem.

A piece or two:

MX-600/U
M-70
C-70
T-70
T-520
R-9
CDX-510/U
PX-3

Eventually, a B-2 with the proper pre might be nice to drive my Advent stack.

Here's my Yamaha gear:

CR 600 receiver
CR 640 receiver
R 700 receiver
NS 570A speakers
CD-2 cd player
CD 550 cd player
RX-V495 A/V receiver

An embarrasement of riches: B1, UC1, C1, C70, NS 30T (best Yamaha made).
On the back burner: B6, K960, CR1020, CR2020, CA800, CA1000, CD2, R700, R9

Where are all the CR1000, T1, T2 owners? Why doesn't anyone have the TC800GL cassette? No one has a CR400 or it's better brother, the CR450 or NS 500.
I am thankful to see so few NS10m speakers, and glad to see a clooection of headphones. The Yamaha headphones are among the most comfortable made.

Cr-3020

Here's my Yamaha CR-3020. I've had this since the mid 80's, it's now in need of refurbishing. Mostly lamps, cleaning pots, etc. Im currently looking for a technician to do it right.

I traded a Marantz 2325 for it at a local audio salon. The Marantz had been in the shop a couple times and I was losing confidence that they could fix it. On the way out I saw this Yamaha sitting on the top shelf (I don't know how they got it up there) and inquired if he wanted to trade. I had to drop another $40, but the baby came home with me and the Marantz went back to the bench.

Also have a YP-D6 turntable with an ADC XLM MarkII cartridge and a set of Speakerlab Monitors with Electrovoice horns. Those 170 watts really make them talk.

Welcome to AK! And a terrific receiver. Do a Vintage SS forum search on the CR-3020 and read what others have said about them.

Too bad merrylander has sworn off these monsters. But, EW (in KC), dr*audio and Punker X (Radio X add at the bottom of the page if you have the time to wait) all do excellent work. If you want the tuner aligned, then you will need either dr*audio or Punker X, as EW does not do alignments.

I forgot about headphones...and an old surround processor.

Add YHD-1 (headphones) and DSR100-PRO (DPL decoder) to my list of Yamaha goodies...
