Wow.

Congratulations Unda Maris,
By all means please post your findings of the relative sounds of the B1 and the Sony V-fet units.

My feelings are that the Yamaha should be re-compared after having a months use. :smoke:

I'm glad someone got the joke. :D It is an old inside joke with a friend from art school long ago. My take on Duchamp's R. Mutt.

Ahhhhhhhhh. Art.

fountain.mink.jpg

Other theories have also arisen to account for the term "Mutt" in the strange pseudonym "R. Mutt." Sewell notes that "Mutt" is American slang for a "fool" or "gawk," and that therefore perhaps such a title was included in order to "challenge everyone who saw his preposterous metamorphosis of the urinal". Sewell reminds us in this context that Duchamp "was very much a man for puns and phonetic jokes". Meanwhile, Hopkins supports a rather complex psychoanalytic and Freudian interpretation of the "Mutt" pseudonym, essentially leading to a bisexual personification of the Fountain. He notes that Freud linked "Mut" (the name of a hermaphroditic Egyptian goddess) with the German word for mother ('Mutter'). If this term is phonetically reversed in French, "it is easy enough to end up with R. Mutt, (and it should be added that Duchamp was later to carry out a literal reversal of "Mut" in the title of his 1918 painting, T um')"

Thanks for the art history lesson. :thmbsp: Here are my two new Yamaha purchases. A CR-420, and a M-4, which is supposed to arrive today. These are the auction photos. I'm hoping the repair of the M-4 is minimal, the seller said it had a "loud humming" coming out of both speakers when he hooked it up. Otherwise, it might be an expensive paper weight. The little 420 needs new bulbs, but otherwise is really clean. It is destined for my wife's classroom, so her art students (there's that art again) can listen while they work. I'm not sure what I'll use the M-4 with yet, if it can be repaired for a reasonable cost. For those that have heard both, how will it compare sonically to my CR-2020 if mated with a C-4 or similar Yamaha pre-amp?

Mr. Mutt (or Ms. Selavy) might use a Bose Wave radio today, and title it "Orchestra".

OK - That's enough non-Yamaha art on my Yamaha thread. You want to post stuff like this go over to the Pioneer/Sansui/McIntosh forums.

OK. How about a picture of my newest Yamaha, then. Picked her up in the parking lot of a Starbucks last Saturday morning for about the price of a dozen venti mocha lattes. She's singing away in Class A right now.

Much better. Thanks. :thmbsp: I'd give a dozen (make that several dozen) frappichino's (or whatever) for a nice CA-2010 any day.

EW has my (and another AKer's) CA-2010 in for a refurb. He just alerted us that he is ordering in the Black Gates, etc, for the work, so should be ready to go soon. Send him yours and let him do a trio. I will match mine with a CT-7000. Should be nice pair.

BTW - My CA-2010 is missing one of those flat-sided knobs. Anyone got a donor unit? Thanks.

P. Shivers-

================

At least on a par with the CR 2020...

I've had a like new M-4 for a couple of months now, fed by a C-45, as well as having a new CR 2020 in the past and a CR 2040 presently. Coupled with a T-1 tuner, the M-4 took the place of the 2040 and I wouldn't consider switching back. I've had Yamaha for a long time, but this setup leaves me wanting for nothing! I'm hoping to add my Sota Sapphire to the mix when my tonearm gets back in a coupla days. :thmbsp:

Sell my clothes, I'm going to Heaven... :smoke: :music:

And here's the CA-2010 with my beat up T-760 (but I still like the way it looks in its simplicity and green display).

UPS tried to deliver my M-4 today, but I wasn't here to sign for it. :sigh: I'm going to try and find a Yamaha pre-amp to go with the M-4, to see how it stacks up against the CR-2020. Another option I'm considering, is to hook the M-4 to the pre-outs of the CR-2020, and drive a sub with it. If I had some bi-ampable speakers, that would be another option, but all I have is a house full of New England 2-way book shelf sized speakers of one sort or another.
