Calling All Yamahas. Time to Post Your Pics

Saw a pair of 901 speakers at a garage sale for $200. Jumped on the deal, but the guy said I had to take the whole system, which included these B-2X and C-2X units.

As a Yamaha Vintage fan, your set is my dream now and you are very lucky to have them escpecially with such low price,
I am new here and I am very happy to share with you, hereunder are some pieces that I would like to share here:

Convitcon, Nice to meet people with the same dreams ...

Ok, since the B-2X is now your absolute dream amplifier and you already own two BX-1´s, you don´t need the B-3´s anymore, isn´t it ? :D

Good news from the V-Fet front:

After three weekends of intensive work (and two electric shocks on 250V DC) my Yamaha B-1 is repaired and it works now with two V-Fets in the left and two "cold triodes" (the name of my V-Fet replacement) in the right channel. For my big surprise the cold triodes didn´t oscillate at all (they are faster than the original V-Fet), they didn´t make problems during bias adjustment and sounded ... better than the original ... Yeeeees ! :smoke:

Power measurements gave 220W (left) and 270W (right) into 4 Ohms.

Take a look on the photos !

Welcome to AK.
My goodness. The illusive B-3 VFET amp. It lives!! Perhaps you could post some nudies of the B-3. Nice gear set. Think we are starting to corner the market on VFETs here on AK. Good for us. We deserve it.

Mirko - Congratulations on getting your B-1 going in its exotic format.

B-1 & B-3...they are indeed beautiful pieces of equipment.

Ran my B-2, C-2x and NS-1000Ms on Sunday most of the day...they sound oh so nice!

My B-6 is off to Nakdoc for a tune-up!

convitcon: The guy sold the B-2x and C-2x on e-pay instantly, I don’t think he even tried them :(

Unda, my B-1 arrived today :) you have to tell me all about the fix!

So now my B's are 1, 2, 2x and 6.

wajobu you are getting a nice setup there :thmbsp:

Hey Folks,

yeah, really nice Yamahas and it is obviously the wrong thread for such an announcement, but I just wrote, that I solved the twenty year old V-Fet problem. I am now one of the very few suppliers in the international Unobtanium business ... :smoke: ... hi hi :D

Even new V-Fet amplifiers could be possible !!!! Nobody thrilled ? :scratch2:

You're killing the value of our rare birds. :D And just when I found a stash of 100,000 VFETs of every make/model known to man.

:D, I will try to become owner of the top-end Vfet Amp like you, Can you tell me what your TA-N7B, and B1 and TA-N88 sound like? Ooh, what a dream!
I have purchased a TA-F7 integrate and I plan to use it as Poweramp, the Preamp will be TA-E88, I think It will sounds fantastic as I has try with TA-5650
Your information of B1 modificaton seem be changed my mind :D, May I will do it with my B3 :music:
I will take some more photos and share with you soon

Regards,

I found your nick name for year before joining AK and your posts has help me determine which ways to go and I would like to thank you for that
I will try to post what I can but English is my weak point, Hum.. :scratch2:

What I would give for one ! :tears:

convitcon,

may I ask where you live ?

The "mod" can currently be made only on the B-1, because it´s V-Fet transistor´s housings are big enough, to include a modern high power transistor and some circuitry (the magic) arround it. It is also currently bound to N-types, but I try during the next months to solve this. The replacement transistors will be rather high price, so it shouldn´t make sense to mod a TA-5650 with them.

The TA-N7(B) and the TA-E88 (as well as the Wega version Lab Zero) form a dream team, which can be considered to be the best of the Senventies. I never had a chance to hear them on a pair of NS-1000´s but I´m sure I´d love to.

You are welcome......and your English is just fine. So much better than my..................(put in any other language but English).

Tell us about the B-3. Is it essentially half a B-1 or B-2? Which VFETs does it use? Rated power, weight, dimensions, etc. Don't think we've ever seen the info on the B-3 (or, at least I don't recall). Do you have either of the manuals? Thanks.

The B-3 is 16,3kg.
2x70W@8ohm (0,03%) or 1x140W@8ohm (0,05%).
N/N 118dB
Damping factor: 80 stereo, 55 mono.
Input sensitivity: 775mV/25Kohm
Bandwidth: 5-100000Hz.

It seems that it is not a pure mono amp, but a bridgeable construction.

And this just popped in, my B-1.

It does not look that good at the moment, there are errors on both channels. So this might become a long term project. :(

But this is how it looks.

Yes.......that B-1 does appear to be a longer-term project. Oh, well. Agger is doing a terrific job on his CR-2020, which looks many times worse than your B-1. Just takes time. And perhaps a bit of money.

Thanks for the B-2 info. Do you know which VFETs the B-3 uses and how many per channel? Was it the last of the Yamaha VFET amps?

No but I just notised that the Input sensitivity is the same as of the B-2, the B-1 has 775mV/100ohm.

Yep, Agger is doing a great job on that CR.
