Sadly, I just got beat out on a bid for a CR-1040 in excellent condition. And the kicker is, it's not too far from here so I could just go pick it up. That's what I get for being a cheap skate. Hey Rob, what's a 2040 in great condition usually go for cost-wise?
 
Supposedly, I am picking up a CR-2040 on Monday with two burned out lights (that's about $5) for $150. That is quite the deal, if it goes through. Figure I am getting it for about half price, or less.

I as well have a CR-1020...just three weeks owned..TS find fer $6.50.

Only issue is the left channel fades out...have a trip to the audio repair guru soon...

Have a 5 (6.1) channel system for mvies...it SUCKS for 2 channel.

Got it yesterday afternoon! :banana:

DC offset: Lch=32.5mV, Rch=28.5mV. Rainy day project as soon as I find which pots to adjust. ONLY other flaw in the entire amp is one burnt out power meter bulb. Big deal... that will be rainy day project #2. That's it. No noisy controls, no busted switches, no loose knobs, perfect wood cabinet.... :D

This thing sounds absolutely incredible....

Other Side

Here's a shot of the other side of my new 640. Rob, if it weren't for being laid off and all, I'd definately be willing to venture out and spend $300.00 for one of your fine pieces of equipment. You know though, I'd rather have a 2040 more than anything. That'll have to wait because I'm trying to stay within my means. There's been talk of a large call back soon, though, so hopefully we can do business.
 
Thanks Rob, but so far, it's a much needed paid vacation. Things are picking up and there's some positive talk. I think good news is coming, so we'll have to discuss a purchase if you get a decent 2040, maybe sometime later this year. Thanks for the well wishes though.
 
Sometime after the summer my newly-acquired CR-2040 (ebay) will be visiting the state of Maryland for some veneer attention. It's a gorgeous piece of equipment let down only by the plastic case.
 
Just picked up a CA-610 II and CT-610 II tuner and amp. Every bulb is out but the power on, stereo indicator and dx-on indicator. A few facial scrtches and the top of the amp cab has an indent but not too bad. Have not opened them but from the knobs, possibly an environment that had some smoking but not bad; no smell. Amp meters indicate 50 watts@8 ohms @0db. Tuner knob nice and smooth, controls all quiet save the volume and balance that can stand some cleaning.

Quick look on eBay completed auctions has neither listed and I know little of the bloodline of Yamaha other than from here and what seems centuries ago.

Picked them up at the flea market for about US$90. Was going to pass on them but you guys all seem to like the line so I thought I'd give a try. Threw them on the Klipsch and got Yo-Yo Ma and Bobby McFerrin (CD) playing for first go around for cello and vocal test. Cello does not have enough resolution to pick up the sound reverb from the cello that comes through with other units and McFerrin's voice has more air than I usually hear.

Then switched to Mama Mia which is not a really good recording but is enjoyable and has a decent dynamic range. You can tell it is a newer mix than most of my source material with over-emphasized bass. Amp is "fast" and is doing well with the Heresys IIs. Amp timbre is similar to the Philips 797 and 796

The tuner works. Dial calibration is universally off a smidgeon but not bad. Like the Philips, the dial turns ratio is large and is easy to work with. Have not opened it up and not sure what the DX switch position does but assume it switches in an additional filter.

Does anyone have any information for these and where they were in the company's lineup?

He will, not doubt, have some left over. I have the service manual for the CA-610II if you need any info.

EW has just finished recapping my CA-2010. Reports 160wpc/42wpc class A @ 0.5%. 0.003% distortion at rated power. Looking forward to listening to. Also, just picked up a CR-2040. My brother has and likes so it may come down to an arm-wrestling contest to see where it ends up.

Gotta go. Tis bicycle riding season.
 
Still have a Yamaha Rx-V870 HT receiver sittin in the closet , needs some tlc has no output anymore, but a simple fix i think, anyone wants it they can pay shipping and have it, it needs a new home, and who better than fellow audio people to have it. :)
 
Thanks for the info guys. The Yamaha site has the CT-610 and CA-610 but not the II versions. Seems to be a few differences between the 2 versions. The units are complete but the faceplate on the amp has some scratching that looks like the knob was forced against it and then turned. Not too bad but compared to all my other units it is the most marred. I'll check with EW to see what conditioon the donor amp's faceplate is in and maybe the case.

So far it connected to the Heresy IIs, the combo is quite decent. I had a choice between this set and a Sony 2950 pair for a few dollars less and thought I'd try this rather than another Sony setup.

Well I just bought my first Yamaha amp and tuner. These are CA-1010 and CT-1010. Didn´t pay much of what I got! :banana:

CA-1010 had a relay problem, caused by TR402 in power supply board (It did connect the speakers a while and then cut them of). This seems to be quite usual problem in that model and CA-2010. I put also a heat sink to new transistor... :) Now works like a beast! All of it´s electrolytic caps have been changed (except bibolar and 18,000uF ones), this was done before I got it. I think I have to check the biases, DC offset and meter adjustments yet.

Well CT-1010 is in brilliant condition! :naughty:
And sounds as well great! I think I chance all of it´s electrolytic caps also when I have so time for it. Great audio products from Yamaha! :yes:

I think this is a start to my hi-fi life or so... next step will be a new pair of speakers.

BTW can you guys tell me what are differences between CA-1010 and 2010.
And if someone have a CA-1010 owners manual in pdf format I would be very pleased to got it. Thanks :)

Hi, just recently joined and wanted to add my 2 cents worth. Back in the "good old days" of 1981, I bought my first stereo system and man was I proud. Played it for hours on end, drove my wife nuts! Well, as time went by it was put aside and now that I am retired I am trying to bring it all back to life without much luck. Here is what I have:

Yamaha R-700 Stereo Receiver Amplifier
Yamaha K-300 Cassette Deck (2)
Dual CS 508 Turntable with Ortofon cartridge TKS 55E
Infinity RSa speakers

The R700 works just fine, the K300 would not run (assume it is the counter belt - bought another one off Ebay (gag) and it was DOA, the turntable would not turn until I lubed it up then found it had no stylus, the speakers need refoaming.

I really love the Yamaha system and hope I can get it going!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :worried:
 
Have a Yamaha A-500 amp and T-500 tuner in my bedroom system. The matching GE-5 equalizer and K-300 cassette deck (doesn't work either, just like redeldo's) stored somewhere around here.
