Classic Luxman's

Luxman has always held a spot in my heart (and with my ears).

Me too! I think it's as good or better than Mcintosh in many (certainly not all) cases.

We should start a Luxman circle here. :thmbsp:

I have always had a sneeking love for Luxman. When I bought my C 05/M 05 set I knew exactly what it was and what it represented. No regrets. It cost something, but so does quality.

Funny enough, I met the former owners' neighbour (the Lux set I bought had only one owner) who works in the vintage shop I bought the set from. Turns out the owner was well off and the Lux set I have was lucky to get 5 hours of use a week when owned. And the guy died 12 years ago. SO the set truly has "little use". I am making up for that now.

If only gear was made to look, feel and sound like this today. I cannot believe how lucky, fortunate and blessed I am to own this set. It truly is an audiophile dream. My music has never sounded better.

If a Luxman only forum was started I would heartedly be a part of it. Granted, it might make Lux gear more expensive if only others knew how good it really is.

I'd be game...T-02/C-02/M-02 here. Love this set, though it's out of service at the moment, I have a bad DC offset issue in the left channel of the M-02. :(

I've certainly enjoyed my Luxmans, R-1050 and R-117. Had a chance one time to get an L-110, but passed on it. I kinda regret that.

About a month or so ago there was a local moving/house sale ad that I saw on CL. In the listing there was a ton of stuff listed being sold and one was "Luxman stereo" with speakers, tape deck etc. It started that weekend at 8AM I woke up around 8:30 and I made it there by 9. I walk into the house and there was a decent amount of people already there. I walk around and nothing so I ask the owner, a nice older lady where the stereo equipment was and she pointed me upstairs. I head up and the speaker, tape deck and some wires were all that I could find. I come back down the stairs and ask about the Luxman and she says "that old, heavy thing? you just missed it there was a guy here exactly at 8 and he snapped it up"

I still wonder what it might of been but it just goes to show you there are Luxman enthusiasts out there and that the early bird gets the worm.

I'm currently drooling over a R-1120 and my local HiFi shop, I'd love to snap it up but must fight the urge.

Luxman made some excellent gear sound quality wise. It's not quite McIntosh in build quality or in price, but sounds as nice when working well. I love older Luxman gear a lot, especially their older receivers, integrateds, and separates. :tresbon: The R1040 and R1070 are especially favorites.

I have a L-220 that I tweaked, I like it a lot but I don't listen to it, it has a fantastic phono section (dual LT-1028 OPA, russian PIO caps, Elna Silmic II caps, MKT caps)...
My turntable is not very good and I need more power for my speakers.

I also possess a bigger Luxman A-383 that I will never sell, like it too much !

I wouldn't be so sure about that. The interior of my M 05 betters the interior of my 2 year old Bryston. I have not seen the interior of MY C 05 but have seen detailed pictures.... definitely a bygone era. I like Macs but not all Luxmans are the same. The 06/07/08 series is simply audio jewelry.

I'm glad the store I worked in started selling Luxman shortly after I started there. We sold a bunch of the receivers Kent mentioned and stacks of the LRS gear. I hope to keep this knowledge as I collect more of the gear. Currently: 1 pre, 2 monoblocks, 1 tuner, 1 integrated amp, 2 cassette decks, 2 speakers and a receiver. All but one unit is this earlier gear. I even gave my brother an R-1040 as a wedding present and an R-405 to a college buddy for same. The 1040 is enjoyed and appreciated by my nephew and the 405 will sing again when the stereo becomes part of the household in the near future. I put a station memory super cap in it a few years ago.

The R-1040 and the R-1050

I admit I love them both. A bit more low end on the 1050, at least to my ears with my speakers.

Anyone comes across the pre-Alpine tape decks, I'd like to see one.

I love my Luxman L-430 integrated amp, I got a Jolida 801A tube amp and thought it would replace the Luxman, no sir the Luxman is a formidable opponent and still remains in my main system. With the Jolida in my bedroom system.

It weighs a ton, has power to burn (105wpc but I suspect it has more) and is as smooth as silk. You would need to pry it from my cold dead hands!
