Classic Luxman's

Honestly my mint L-230 is kind of sad in terms of sound and I hate the plastic buttons on it. You just don't know how bad these things sound until you compare it to a decent separate system.

That series is not compatible with 4 ohm loads. If you do it, it will sound poor.

That series is also some of the best you'll ever hear, most seperates are quite sad compared to it.

There have been myriad notable analog components produced over the decades. Many produce a wonderful sound. And all manufacturers seem to set a high water mark before inevitably, they go into decline and go away. I've been into audio since I was a kid and have owned a lot of gear over 5 decades!

My personal highwater mark has been, and continues to be the Luxman M-05. This statement is not mean't to be a challenge to anybody - most of us love what we have! But the M embodies the spirit of engineering when the designers were given a clean sheet of paper.

I bought mine new, and it has been in continuous operation - either running, or on standby for over 20 years!

This gear will outlast me - I have no doubts!

L-430 reliability

I might be buying one of these. I read this model came out in 1981 (before the Alpine takeover). Anyone have a reliability report?
And, if it sounds like or better than my R-1050, that will be just fine.:music:

Sorry to dig an old thread.
I happen to work on an unit (L-200) for a friend, cleaning switches, replacing the old elco's and put a LED instead of the lamp and... wow!

Very nice sounding little amp! DC offset around 4mV, bias stable at 16mV and the sound really really nice...
I'll keep an eye if one of these (L-200 to L-235) appear soon.

Ran into an old friend earlier this week and we got to talking and she mentioned that she had picked up an awesome vintage "amp" awhile back and loves it. She said one of the things she liked about it was the aesthetics of it which was the main factor in purchasing it.

I asked her what is it (Make/Model) Sansui? Pioneer? Marantz? as she kept saying no she started saying what it was and I immediately said Luxman? she said that's it.

Turns out she acquired an R-1050 "receiver" cosmetically 9/10 and that to her ears it sounds great albeit a little scratchiness when she adjusts the volume. I was happy for her and proceeded to blather on about all things Luxman and how great of brand it is.

I just thought I'd share about a new Luxman convert.
