Coffee

Just got a new tamper to use. Like it a lot better than the old stye tamper. Puts a perfectly flat top on my 58mm portafilter. Plus even weight thru and thru. This thing weighs just shy of 18 oz. You will see where some people still use a regular tamper after this, but most folks say no need too. I don't. Works perfect for me. I'm up early fixen bacon for Memorial day burgers later.

I picked up my beans today. Bodhi had a great sale on all their Honey Process beans so I got three 5 pounders of Sumatra Kerinci, Costa Rica Villa Sarchi and El Salvador Columba Red.

Roasting the Sumatra now.

What does honey processed mean?
They strip the fruit and leave the pulp to ferment a bit while the beans dry. It’s in between washed and natural where the whole fruit is left on for the drying process. Natural is most risky as it will rot if it rains too much, but done right with good weather it yields excellent coffee. A few years ago the 1st 100 point coffee ever was a natural process geisha (wild Ethiopian strain) from Panama. It went for over $100/lb and was worth it not that I bought any, but I did have a cup.

Fun fact in my world.

My better half with whom now some 45 years later spent life with. After retiring from her job at the 39 year mark.
Decided to start drinking Joe.

She stated many times why I didn't tell her about the benefits while working.
WTF! I been drinking coffee since a teenager........

She can drink a cup at 2100 and go to seep.

I drink instant and milk due to it being easier on my tummy.
She when hog wild and bought a Keurig machine.
Assortment of cups.....

Like elcoholic, I too patron Bodhi leaf. I've tried several different beans but I really like the fruitiness of Ethiopian. The best cup of coffee I've ever had was an Ethiopian and I keep searching for that ahh ha moment. I've been close but haven't nailed it down yet.

Ethiopian from the Sidama region is the best I've had.

My wife has been drinking this coffee the past month and she loves it. The company is owned by military veterans. You can purchase all manner of coffee, regular, high test and decaf, normal beans and k-cups etc.

After my last trip to Italia (2018) I decided I MUST get a real classic style fully analog espresso machine - it was my first priority. I got home on a Friday night. At 8 on Saturday morning I went to craigslist and did a search for Espresso Machine. First response was Espresso Machine $600 I saw the picture and fumbled for my phone. The guy answered and was really surprised I was calling because he had JUST listed it. I told him I'd be right over. He was a retired restaurant supply dealer and we bonded over experiences traveling in Italia. He MADE me barter, so I offered $550. He said he'd take $500. He pulled out a box of spares and a grinder - these go with it.

It's an early Magister Stella with the legendary Faema E61 groupo. The grinder is a Ceado E6P burr grinder - couldn't have been more than a year old when I got it. I had to do 10+ years of deferred maintenance on the machine and give the grinder a good cleaning, a lot like what you do when you get a used decent turntable. I am now officially semi-retired from the espresso machine hunt.

Picture was taken today after morning use - drip tray is in the sink. I like Intelligentsia Black Cat and a local roast Gold Country Morning Blend. Both are medium and pretty rich. I am planning on getting a groupo accessory thermometer that replaces that screw in the middle of the head, and a Ceado Quick Gear upgrade kit to make dialing the grind in easier, but I am not in a hurry.

Coffee is a daily thing for me. Typically Tony's brand (a WA state brand).

French roast is my go-to blend.

One of these days, I want my own espresso unit - even if I live in the coffee capital of the US.

The Lovely Blanche supervises a City-run hospital kitchen. One of the perks (pun intended) is that essential City workers get CARE packages. Over the last month, we've gotten six pounds of Peet coffee. It's not quite as high-octane as the Death Wish I'm used to, but it's a good, full-bodied coffee. I don't like electric grinders because they heat up the coffee as they grind. I use this; an Arcade Crystal #3. One plus is that it gives me a little bit of exercise when I grind. It can't hoit!

A lot of smart people here so I imagine quite a few drink coffee. Many benefits to drinking coffee, high in antioxidants just for starters, so I was wondering what others might be brewing as I sit here waiting on my coffee maker.

I've tried a lot of coffee in my yrs here on earth, but this is my favorite, and luckily it's cheap lol.

When in California I shopped at WallyWorld just as here in Fl for the most part. One day they didn't have my coffee, so I went online to try and find it, they were the only distributor in Cal. Thankfully it was due to a packaging change and it wasn't long before they had it back on the shelves.

This interim when they didn't led me to doing some research on 8 O'clock Bean, and I was very surprised to find its origin was with A&P, and its rated as one of the best coffees in the world.

Coffee... I love it :bigok:
