Coffee

It was only a week but I could not detect any problem with the afore mentioned frozen coffee beans. Left them out overnight to thaw (still in vaccum pack) to ensure no condensation would form when opened.

Will have a longer trial in the coming days. Ordered 5 lb of roasted bean but we use about 1lb week so I'm going to break the remainder into smaller packages and freeze those.

:naughty:

Roasted on 3/16. Arrived today.

Already broken into 4x 1lb packs for the freezer, and 1lb in the coffee crock for next up.

Aloha!

The issue is that with coffee, like music, everyone is going to have a different taste for what they prefer. What is one man's pleasure is going to be another man's disappointment.

As a Hawaiian, of course I drink a lot of Kona. And you'd probably expect me to say that Kona, above all, is my favorite and the best coffee in the world. Well, you'd be wrong. I like Kona very much, and I find it to be one of the best coffee varieties I have ever brewed, but it is not the best - to my taste. Nor is Jamaican Blue Mountain. Nor even my beloved Jacobs Kronung that I drank for years thinking it was probably the best coffee I ever had.

Like all things I become passionate about, I get very focused when I dive into something I enjoy, like Jazz, Audio Equipment and Vinyl Records. Coffee had my focus in a big way for a long time, and I sampled dozens upon dozens of beans from dozens upon dozens of manufacturers worldwide. This included European coffee, Hawaiian coffee, Central American coffee, South American coffee, Carribean coffee, US coffee from large and micro roasters and African coffee from all over that continent. I even made it a point to seek out coffee from fine resorts that I visited in Hawaii, The Mainland US, Europe, Mexico and the Carribean to see what they brewed. Some even sold me small sample bags of their "specialty" coffee that I took home to brew my way.

After a lot of grinding and tasting (and I mean a LOT), I have come to the conclusion that for my taste, this is by far the finest blended, supurbly roasted, best aroma, most supreme crema, absolutley wonderfully tasting coffee I have had to date;

Lavazza Crema E Aroma

This is a blend varietal. Lavazza mixes Arabica beans from Central and South America with Robusto beans from Africa to come up with this blend. And to my taste, they have nailed it dead center. The crema on this coffee lasts a good long time. The aroma is heavenly. The taste delectable. I prefer it in my Moka pot. It certainly can be made in an Espresso machine. I'd personally not sentence this amazing coffee to a drip maker, but it can be done if that is your pleasure. I have had other Lavazza varieties and they pale in comparison to this one for my palate.

Enjoy the daily grind, my friends.

Yup, lots of different tries here too including Kona, JBM, most continents, etc. My favorite so far is the Yemen Haimi that I've roasted. I'm not a dark/darker roast fan but dumped at the first snaps of 2nd crack the Yemen is oh so good.

Has anyone tried the Jose’s Organic French roast at Costco?

my local Costco used to roast right in the store and their FR was quite good but now I’ve been reduced to the Jose’s FR which I enjoy. Curious if anyone else has had it and their opinions.

Thanks

Eric

I'm having my first of this new to me coffee this morning. I roasted this only 2 days ago. I prefer 3 days rest, but ran out a day early.

A little bit over roasted as I’m not picking up the black cherry, dark chocolate and molasses notes. Otherwise I’d give it a 7/10 which is great for $7ish/lb beans. Then again my palate isn’t trained well trained for nuance or perhaps my taste buds are 64 years old and that’s just another thing that ain’t what it used to be. Next time I’ll go 2:00 past 1st crack instead of 2:30.
BTW I just rotated the TD-125 back into the main system. After sitting for 6 months the belt stiffened up so I got a new OEM Thorens belt and it’s singing again. Do you recall putting a new belt on it?

I usually drink one of the Trader Joe’s coffees, typically the medium-dark roast from Bolivia (the one with the llama on the can).

With the current epidemic, I wasn’t able to find much to order online that wasn’t ridiculously overpriced. So, remembering that my parents always used Maxwell House in their percolator, I ordered a 1.5lb can for $5.99. Very reasonable.

Well, it’s actually not bad. I’ve been using a refillable gold filter single-serve pod in the Keurig, filled to the rim with Maxwell House grounds. Apparently, they switched to 100% Arabica a decade ago, so no more bitter Robusta flavor that I remember from sampling my parent’s awful perc coffee.

It is, for the tine being, “good to the last drop”. Well, next to last, since without a paper filter, there are dregs, lol.

Not the Yemen Haimi as last time but hopefully it is similar. Then, a small sample. Never had a Brazilian bean before...not for home roasting anyway. Had coffee in Brazil though. Strong and sweet (as in lots of sugar is the norm).
