Hello All,

Is there any way to add Subwoofer to MC225 in addition to the two Stereo speakers ?
I want to buy the Mcintosh XLS340 Speakers which need a boost to the lowers.

I hope you mean 2255. Yes you can buy any number of powered subs that sample the signal off the speaker lines. but that is not the best solution. Ideally you should have a crossover built into the sub that will roll off the main speakers where they start to diminish and then add the sub, so there is not destructive interference between the bass drivers and sub. M&K use to make a separate device as did some of the professional speaker companies: Meyer, JBL etc. Rane made a room EQ for HT systems that will properly blend electronic subs and full range speakers. Mac MEN 220 stereo processor is ideal for such a situation. But in any event the subwoofer will need to be self powered.

Other wise the sub will need a separate power amp. That's the old way of doing things. There are so many design variables to get the right sound out of a sub that you are better off with a self powered sub. The ones with self analyzing circuits to give the best dynamics and frequency response are more desirable. Ideally you should have a sub for each speaker for more realistic stereo reproduction. Setting up subs is a very complex process and best left to professionals with audio analyzers.

Theoretically you only need one sub and I have heard one sub systems work, but I've heard and installed 2 subs systems that worked better.

I think you need a LOT more power to run those speakers.....85 dB at 1 meter. I suspect with 25 watts the amp will clipping in no time and while clipping is "softer" with a tube amp control of the woofers will just disappear.
