Hi,

Will my both AMPs, Mcintosh Mc225 (tube 2x25w) & Mc2505 (SS 2X50w), succeed to drive the JBL L250Ti speakers ?

And both of them like power. Lots of power. I'm putting 250 watts into mine. They're rated to 400 watts. Cactus Bob here is happily pushing his 250Tis with 700 watts per channel! I would not expect them to truly shine with 25 or 50 watts, although they will still sound very good.

And I'll tell you to do what I do and use both - tubes for the upper drivers and big SS power for the bass. You'll have to be creative on the xover side of things to pull this off as most 250s don't allow for biamping right out if the box. PM me if you want some ideas.

In a general sense of the word, yes. If you are considering owning this model they will truly "succeed" with plenty of current drive, though. They have enormous headroom and you will eventually want to tap into it. You should also consider room placement restrictions. This model sounds best away from boundaries. The foam surround on the woofer and the foam plug behind the 250Ti titanium tweeter dome (will rot, affecting the response) are some additional things to consider.

Right now, I am powering my L150's with a 53 WPC receiver. Granted, they are in a relatively small room, but they sound great on less power than I have available from that receiver. If you have a big room, you may need more.

The L150 (or nearly any traditional vintage L-series JBL) is a different animal in power demands than the later systems from the '90s and later. The L150 is an easy drive for a 75-watt amp but it prefers around 200wpc. The 250ti seems to need three-times that—and more—to really impress. :dunno:

Can I avaluate the foam's condition from outside look, or I need to remove the woofer/tweeter ?
If "outside look", any tips for unprofessional user ?

Woofer: Pinch the foam surround and see if it immediately resumes its shape, or holds the pinched shape (or worse, tears). It should be very supple and resilient.

Tweeter: Must be disassembled to inspect. May be best to leave it alone. If it's original, the 044Ti foam behind the dome is certainly a sticky mess by now. Replacing it is possible, but you'll need to take it apart, very carefully. See:

It requires unscrewing the top back cover on the cabinet, prying off the cover, unscrewing the tweeter from behind, removing the rubber O-ring and metal screen over the tweeter, unscrewing the screws holding it together, then prying the diaphragm off the magnet. Clean off the old foam reside, replace per the details above, and reassemble.

It really depends on the listening distance from the speakers, the average output level that you listen to music and the type of music you listen to. 25wpc could be all you need for your listening habits while someone else may need 400wpc for their's.

Would you think that JBL L100T will sound better with my AMPs than 250Ti ?
In other words, which Speaker is a better match to my Mcintosh MC225 (2X25W) & MC2505 (2X50W) ?

I would not expect so. Perhaps you could describe your listening position, typical listening level and musical tastes? With that, we could recommend a speaker sensitivity level that would be well suited to your available amplifiers.

I'd really doubt that. Just because you don't have enough power to literally blow up the 250's doesn't mean they'd sound bad. Even with a lot of power, at reasonable listening levels you're probably only averaging maybe 1 watt. Granted a low powered amp won't get those real loud, but they should easily smoke the L100t's at what levels they can reach.

My music is Rock, Prog Rock & Classic.
My listening level is Low-Medium.
My listening position is ~2 Meters from the speaker.

The *only* thing that would give me any hesitation from saying the 250Ti would sound better is the listening distance. At 2 meters the height of the 250s array of drivers may not be ideal.

25w would give you 98 db peaks without clipping which will give you about 82-83db average output without clipping with your type of music at your listening distance. I'd say that at low to medium output, 25-50w will get you buy, but be careful pushing them beyond medium output levels.

I had a pair of L250s - for close listening they were not ideal - In a big room they sound like live music - one if the best off axis listening speakers i've had.
