The F16 is the jet fighter I see the most here in the Dutch skies.
I don't know enough about jet fighters and the F16's differences with more modern designs.
But I guess cost effectiveness, ease of maintentance, upgrade-ability and inherent breadth of deployability have a lot to do with it.

And what a fantastic shape to see zipping by regularly in the sky.

I have not been to an airshow since 1988, and that one was the fiasco at Ramstein AFB... no more for me ever- I'll watch the videos instead.

Grifted into my mind that moment, and I've only seen it on the news as a kid. I cannot imagine what it does to a person when you actually were there, but I can very much understand that it makes you never want to attend one again.

Not related to you, but it reminded me that I found out a short while ago that a major European electronic music DJ, Boris Brejcha, was at the Ramstein incident as a kid.
He used to perform with a venetian mask on, but often removes it now during his shows.
I found this out because he's been a source of hope and inspiration to a burns victim I know.

It was a very scary and also miraculous incident: there were burn victims all around us, mostly older German couples, while one American child 3-4 years old was standing in the middle of a circle of fire and debris completely unscathed... then we see his father run through the flames and grab him and get out of there quick... I guess it wasn't their time, or ours for that matter, as we had no physical damage just recurring bad dreams ever since (I don't even like to fly anymore, but I do when needed).

"FIFI." One of only two airworthy B-29s in the world.
Interesting when you read up on the B-29 and its engine overheating issues that made it a literal bomb that could go off way too easily, apparently the pilots hated having to fly it knowing they could die anytime they flew it. Most of the planes that made it through the war were used as target drones.
