Coolest car stereo EVER!!

Tube and the VU meters make it ultra cool! BUT.....isn't bad for tubes to get bounced around when hot? Never understood the need for tubes in car audio.

1. Usually, tubes take time to warm up to sound their best. I usually reach my destination by the time they warm up! Maybe if you drive a long distance everyday it's justifiable.

2. Jarring around isn't too good for warm tubes. Unless you have a very smooth riding vehicle and you don't drive in pothole filled streets like Los Angeles.

Car radios were 100% vacuum tube until the early '60's. They worked perfectly.

I put one of these h/u in Tom's 1940 sedan delivery over at American Heli-arc.
30 sec warm up time for the tube, it is in the preamp stage
Yes you can tube roll
Tubes units are not a problem in a car that were designed for that use.

My first car was a 1947 Dodge. I tracked down an oem used radio, 6 volt + ground.
I drove the wheels off the car in high school. All cars that had a radio as an option had tubes. It sounded better then my dads 69 Buick's radio,AM only.

Probably a gimmick, couple heater wires to light up the tube. Easy test- turn it on, if you can hear it come up "like a tube" then i'd believe it.

I used to use a pic of this radio as an Avatar...

Yeah, tubes will never work in a car stereo.
And the PC was a bad idea since only 2-3 would ever be sold...

There is a 45 sec mute to let the tube warm up, again only in the preamp stage. The blues singer Doug Macleod heard the system and remarked it was the most analog sounding he had ever heard in a car.

Would fit in my car. The broken CD player is the killer. Sourcing the parts isn't nearly as easy as he claims. Not that I would buy it anyway.

i have a real valve car radio here . they were all valves at one time as already mentioned .
bit off topic but back when when i was an apprentice there was a joke with the lads who bragged about having 16 valve engines ... reply was my radio has more valves than your engine . was funny at the time ..
