Coronavirus Is Evolving

no, it hasn't. Even polio is still out there, it's just that the polio vaccine is 100% effective if administered properly. We are still affected by the spanish flu , every year. And this virus will mutate, as most all do, so this initial vaccine will eventually have to be adjusted for the wuhan virus changes, just like the flu shot.
This increase was predicted back in the spring.
Here's my anecdotal evidence. One son is a navy doctor and his wife is a nurse in Va. They haven't seen any major problems. Another daughter-in-law in wichita ,Ks., hasn't seen any major problems. Another son, a physician assistant in Co. who is part of a practice with around 5,000 patients has seen more cases ( more testing capability)but not extreme results.
If you're 80 or above and/or with significant secondary medical issues, maybe you should just stay home.
Here in Pa. we've set a new high of reported cases, once again more testing capabilities, but no significant ICU or ventilator increases or use.
Since the spring, I have not seen a reduction in mask use indoors, or for that matter , even outside, yet here we are with big increases in cases. I don't know, but just what is that saying? ...
I'm not wearing my mask outside, and not wearing a mask inside my own home, including thanksgiving.
My age group (67) is like a 99.9% survival rate. I don't want it, heck, I don't want the flu, but If I was THAT worried, I'd stay home. That would be my suggestion for anyone else.
Just don't try to force me, please.
where in pa? anyways, around pitt they are toying with universal school closings as some kids are testing +. But !!!! not one kid has gotten it in the school! each time they contact traced, the 'exposed' kids passed quarantine with 0 cases. in school, my kid wears a mask full time, sits 90 feet from any human, not allowed to talk, socialize or eat in the cafe. all indoor locations around here are full time masks so either there is some other factor or masks dont work, but yanno.

we have 50% restaurants (allegh cty down to 25), no bars, no pubs, no clubs, no sporting events but outside steelers are 1/20th stadium capacity, no concerts, no movies...so unless people are gathering in basements at night for big slobber fests, there is something else at play no one is discussing.

My company is making exposed teams quarantine while unexposed teams are spread thinner and thinner across stores to keep them open. We have not had sales goals in nine months, however we are still making commission. People are still coming in and looking for a deal on those new iPhones and Galaxy phones. It's a bit surreal. You would think there would be a larger uptick in online shopping but with cellphones there's a strong undercurrent of "I'm not tech savvy, just do it for me".

Young people may be just fine but there is something called asymptomatic spread at play here. Despite wanting to run around at Costco without a mask, it wouldn't be prudent. That's what all this concern about universal mask requirements is really all about - protecting from asymptomatic spread as well as the long incubation period with this virus.

Data analysis has been going on for quite a while on this disease. Some good info here unless you're into conspiracy theory.

As of this coming Saturday, California has issued a curfew from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM for non-essential activities. It affects 41 of 58 counties (94% of the population).
That's because everyone knows that you can only get infected after 10:00 PM and before 5:00 AM doing non-essential activities and only in the 41 of the 58 counties that represent 94% of the population.

Anyway, IBTL.

I'm in harrisburg and we listen to Brett Delone , VP of Medical Services , Holy Spirit hospital in harrisburg, Whp 580, around 7:10 am., Mon-Fri.. Basically, his message this morning was high reported cases, yet plenty of ICU and ventilators available.
I respect store policies....but I'm not wearing a mask in my car, or outside walking into or out of a store, or a park, etc..
Why the increase in cases yet mask wearing has been in effect since , what, March?.....
Answer...just more testing?......

The asymptomatic-type is one of the "wild cards" in the mix, and not always younger person. Their immune system copes with the virus, but others they come in contact with can't. Then; if you factor in those with already compromised immune systems, another cluster is created.

There's another newer test in use now, saliva based, wherein reliable results can be determined within a 4-8 hour period. An it's fairly inexpensive.

The other worry I have is if the virus takes on another mod, and some of the drugs may not cope with it.

Some of the current advances in a vaccine seem 90%+ effective (in lab testing), but they are not really sure how long these drugs will work on being a barrier, nor any long term effects.

I listened this morning to a new movement of communication that is trying to get the younger people to fully understand how their ramifications can affect the over all transmission of this unseen virus. With the lower aged people, they feel that they've been out of the loop on information and need a form of education rather than being exposed to rules/regulations. For them at this time in their lives, they are far more open to outside interactions, as were we in the past.

With the coming of Winter in the northern parts of this continent, some businesses are going to be even more affected by the cold. I worry how much longer the, even with the gov't's help they will be able to survive....as well as those who have been directly affected by all of this.

I can see some pretty severe lock downs coming in the immed future, and see some, advocating their rights over what is good for the community. It seems to be the more heavily populated areas will feel this clamp down...but how long will they accept this control as a necessary norm?

Anyways some pos & neg shares this day on the Covid.

there is a dash board they created for pa that takes in data 2-3x a day from pa hospitals lists cases, beds, icu beds, vents in use, % for covid. IT was linked from the state DoH website but now has a paid login, however triblive references data from that - they didnt want the public to see it after a point (duh) but it has ALWAYS been the case since week 1, we have never ever had a bed or vent shortage and of the vents in use in PA, including philly, only 1/3 are in use for covid, the rest for ??? As much as they scream CASES CASES CASES! in pa, severe is not a big word. hopefully is stays that way. from seeing the data I think it will. If I can find a replacement link for PA I will post it. you being in the burg, should have an easier time perhaps in the sentinel?

eta: look up ArcGIS from pa health.gov. you can create a free 21 day account and it will show hospital preparedness by county by hovering.

I finally figured it out- 50% of the people are below average intelligence. Where's Garrison Keillor when you need him?

Because some people begrudgingly comply with mask requirements in public but private is another story. I have an acquaintance who invited me to a birthday party for his father. His dad is 85 and he was expecting 65-75 people in attendance. This kind of thinking is rampant in the county I reside in.

Non-essential activities... good, that means Newsom will be staying outta sight (having his "laundry" done again?).
