Critters

What an amazing thread. At one point in my life, I used to consider myself quite the photographer.

This thread reminds me, I was just a rank amateur.

They were looking at me in their eyes. :D

Wow! I like the first one best, the crystal clear reflection of the building in the eye of the frog is really nice.

I volunteer to take portraits of animals available for adoption at my local shelter. Mostly dogs and cats, but there are some critters from time to time. Here is a ferret:

Thanks!

Among the dozens of shots, that was the best and most difficult one I took for the frogs as the movement within 2 mm of the position with my camera would simply blur the reflection in its eye. In addition to that, the Minolta MC Macro Rokkor is a manual lens so the anti shakes mechanism is not working on the Sony but, luckily, I have a pair of steady hands.

critter evidence, if not the critter itself

That pic above of the raccoon on the porch reminded me of the two fat bastards I caught running down the top of our fence one night a few months back. Haven't seen them since, but coincidentally my wife sent me these pics today:

She figures it's these guys that have been digging up her rose garden. Thought it was a ground squirrel before this, but there's no doubt this is raccoon footprints. I think they dig for food in the garden, and either bring it over to the pool to wash off or possibly just come to the pool to wash up after they are done digging.

Going to have to set up a critter cam, see what else goes on outside my back door that I am missing. The pair of prints in the second pic are at the shallow end, you can see the first step past the edge of the coping. That's probably less than 15 feet from my back door, cheeky buggers!

Edit: those two footprints in the second pic are actually on the first step, under water. Dude was wading in the pool on that top step. We found another one on a side wall near a corner, apparently leaned against the wall (under water) while leaning over the edge.

Definitely not the quality of most of your photos, but here's one. My daughter had a lamb for a 4-H project years ago, so I set up a pen and shelter in the back yard for it. That was also our dog's domain, so he kept watch - I think. I don't know if they were friends, or he was waiting tor the right opportunity..................:scratch2:

Nothing too creative, but I was comparing a couple different compact and/or mirrorless cameras at my kid's/ex-wife's house last fall. I forget which was used but they look like Canon compacts or maybe a stray shot from a Nikon J1. The darker grey cat is pretty hard to shoot... he tends to take off about three seconds after he sees a camera.
