Denon DP80 & DP75 Owner's Thread

Here is some info. They are of excellent quality. Here are some prices from the same cataloge.
A complete Technics 1200mk2 was 75,000, a Pioneer PL-50L was 85,000 and a Denon DP-60L was 90,000 at that time.

Thanks for posting that. Especially the dimensions. Am surprised the DK-2300 is not that much larger than the DK-300. Now I have to start measuring to see if it will fit.

Can't imagine how Denon could improve on my DK-300 unless they provided a more "modern" design to allow for an easy change of the footers. Assume that the DK-2300, built during the same era of TT/TA/plinth mfgr'g is of the same quality.

I use to think that about the feet also until I discovered I was not using them correctly. You may be using them correctly but I was using them to level only. They have heavy duty springs inside them. As long as you don't bottom any of the feet out (like I was) they are very good at isolation.

@FreedomJazz , if your going to mount a Victor UA-7045 or UA-7082 tone arm the hole is rather large. My armboard inserts are metal and I machine the holes to 1.564 diameter, it's a nice snug fit for the stepped rubber ring under the mounting collar.
The spindle to pivot distance of the arms are 245mm for the UA-7045 and 282mm for the UA-7082.
They are very nice tonearms with a lot of great features. One of the few arms still flying under the radar.

sorry to crash the thread on DP-80/75, I just acquired a same lineage, not as accomplished DP-6000 that I will likely build a 'naked' mount like @bimasta built for his 80. I have a Jelco SA-750e (10") arm to mount, but I also have a SA-250 (9") arm as well. I'm considering making a mount that would enable both arms to be mounted. I have two Audio Technica carts, a newer AT-OC9/iii and a NOS AT-15SS, so I can qualify having a permanent MC and MM cart (speaking convincingly to myself). I'm a little worried about putting the AT-15SS on the 250 arm, I think the 15SS is fairly high compliance and the Jelco seems to be mid to heavy. I think I'll be ok with the OC/9iii and the 750e. Once I get my template squared away, it will be easy enough to cut another one in case I find another TA like a Victor or something interesting. Anyway, thanks to @bimasta for sharing pics with me on his 'naked' mount.

I'm very pleased with my 9" Stax TA. They offered it as a 12" arm, as well, and they show up fairly often on eBay. I'm listening to mine with an AT-33R MC at the moment & it is great.
 
Have a DA 401 on mine and it’s a great arm......however I just purchased a wooden version (copy) of EMT 997 12” arm off of eBay and its well worth the money and way below your budget.

Enjoy your new table, they are fantastic...

BTW

You might also want to consider an AT pneumatic lift, it can certainly be made to work on a Denon.

Have one installed on my Broadcast ROK for much the same reasons....

Thanks, I have my fingers crossed on the shipping and the safe arrival. The plinth weighs over 60lbs by itself. I hope they know what they're doing. Also thanks for the recommendation, that's a nice arm for sure. I'll keep an eye out for a 12 inch version.

Thanks Andy, I'm seriously considering a the Denon 401, nice to hear you like it. If you could PM me some info on the wood 12" arm that would be awesome.

Just looked that lift up, looks like model number AT-6005. Very neat device, good to know there are options. Looks like it might squeeze into a little tighter area as well. :beerchug:
 
Yes I’ll message you reference the tonearm....

I was talking about the AT pneumatic tonearm lift/lower or queuing mechanism, it comes in two parts and is adjustable:

Here’s a photo of it installed, the actuator is up front and the lift is underneath the Grado arm, the are connected by a tiny air hose.

BTW that’s the 12” wood arm in the back.....

Ah ok I get it now, the pneumatic lift is for queuing. The kind of lift I'm trying to fit on my table is for auto lifting the arm at the end of a side, one of these:

The wood arm looks nice, what cartridge do you have mounted? Looks like it might be a Shure?
 
Congrats on the purchase. I love mine. I actually have two in case something happens to one I can just drop in the other and keep playing.
I hope it arrives safely. Just in case it does not have you seen the Pioneer PL50Lii or the 70Lii? These as well as the Denon DP60L and maybe some of the other 60 series Denons have the auto lift at the end built in. I have had the Denon 60L and the Pioneer PL50lii. The arms are very good and can work well with a broad range of cartridges. Both have straight and S shaped pipes and the Pioneers have fluid damping.
You would not have to modify them.

Thanks! That's awesome that you have a spare DL80, can't get a much better endorsement than that. Funny you mention the Pioneers. I used to have a complete 70s silver face Pioneer setup, my whole audio journey started with a love of Pioneer. I've wanted a PL-70LII for years. I had my eye out for a nice one on the Japanese seller pages on eBay for the past year or so. I almost jumped a few times but they've all had a touch too much oxidation on the silver parts. Looking through one of the bigger seller's (Unisound) inventory at the Pioneers, I started to take notice of the Denon tables. Ultimately I did some research and wound up setting my sights on the DL-80 after all the positive reviews I read here and elsewhere. I really like that the DL80 motor unit is huge and standalone. It's very cool that you can just drop it in a plinth and pick your arm. I've had a ton of integrated tables and the modular nature of the big Denon UFO drive units really appeals to me.
 
Not sure where I read about these guys but the last couple of days I've been considering what I'd do if I can't get the plinth that comes with my auction purchase to clean up nice enough. I've been drooling over the plinths on the Acoustand site, does anyone here have any experience with them?
 
You don't need a plinth. Nice pedestal made out of Al for your TA and any number of ways to support your DP-80 without a plinth. If you look completely thru this thread I believe you will find a couple of plinthless DP-80s.
