Wow ... some really nice customised DP80 electronics and mechanics turntable by Peter.
Will contact Peter if my still-born DP-80 issues are not resolved but I believe repair cost for my mentioned issues will end my hope to progress further even excluding 2-way shipping costs Singapore-USA

Hi Legrace, thanks again .. just a note that recap kit from ebay seller did include 6 transistor typically needed for speed issue and instructions worries me that more elusive ICs may be the implication.
Hope to find some assignable cause/fix when my DP-80 is stripped again to check the recap/transistor replacement assuming it was working fine as claimed when the Japanese seller sold it to me.

Hey Mark, Tks .. will certainly do so. The original 2SC458 are replaced by KSC1815 and ebay seller did emphasized the care to look at marking on the pcb to follow suit.

Hey Legrace, good news ! It was all the 6 replacement KSC1815 transistors being installed in the wrong direction as it was reversed of stock ones. Running fine and regain 0.1% and back to 100% confidence on dealing with Japanese seller of used items as it nearly dropped to 99.9% .. lol ! Tks again for the responses .. with appreciation. Cheers.

Hey Miles, tks again .. C6 was properly trimmed with no chance of being in contact with metal bracket if I had not misunderstood yr kind advice. Cheers !

Hey Mark, You hit 6 nails and bingo .. lol ! Just to say, my pcba has all the transistors in same directions .. hence all in wrong orientations but glad no permanent damage I think .. so far

Hi, The strobe light of my dp-80 is a bit dimmed out and I too wish to replace it with led. Kindly share part # of led used and where you had managed to order it .. my understanding is that it is 100v as it is powered by the 100v xformer directly. Thanks in advance. Cheers.

Hi, anyone managed to find replacement stock strobe blub or even better still LED replacement for preferred blue ones as other leds for 33 anf 45 rpm switches had been changed to blue ones on my dp-80 ? Someone with Sl-1200 modded his with led very nicely as shown in seemingly exact strobe holder to what is used in dp-80.

Took the plunge and bought the last available strobe light of SL-1200 mk 1 from ebay .. believe same neon light assembly as dp-80 from same 80s era. Shout out to John who repaired the Sl-1200 mk 1 to included neon-led strobe mod especially who is more than willing to help than any with dp-80 owners who may had done same mod and hope my experience shared here also helps other.
Another thread of Japanese dp1700 owner with strobe light holder looking exactly the same as dp-80 also modded his without strobe light holder .. no longer restricted to yellow, orange and red of neon tubes then but hopefully blue leds to match the other 2 leds for 33/45 rpm.
The dp-80 journey continues with sl-1200 (seems dp-1000 also is the same) strobe light expected to arrive in 4 weeks from Canada, receipt of ua-5045 victor tonearm to see how bad is the infamous rubber damper sag after 30-40 yrs and restoration of dk-300 plinth with slightly cracked and not preferred wooden veener etc. But so far so good with no major obstacle nor major expenses.

Btw, for later and newer Dp-75 owners here, leds are used with 5v IC ... seems it may be a better option at least for me if I had known what I know now.
Other than using led based strobe easily available and being newer with expected less issues, dp-75 also has version that has selectable worldwhile voltages vs only japanese 100v dp-80 and reportedly no difference in sound quality for those who had both while having a smaller motor.

I’m very excited as I just received a Denon DP-80 from Japan. I’ve got the DP-75 already in the DK-300 plinth which is my main player and I love so much. But in the end, I want to make sure I have the best one and it feels like the ones from Japan will dry up at some point and they will then become impossible to find.
I also bought myself a 100v transformer, going by a couple of threads on AK, I got myself a Sanyo TSD N06U which puts out I think 600 watts, 660vac and 6.6A that I hope is way overkill as the DP-80 tells me it has an 8 watt motor.
But looking at this thing, it’s clear I ground the turntable to the grounding post on it… but does anyone know if this Sanyo unit needs to be grounded from that post to the wall too? What I read about Japanese electronics is they have a slightly more inconvenient system and there’s a separate wire for grounding and they don’t do a 3 prong plug. Anyone know what is the correct grounding method for this in the USA? Here’s a pic of the Sanyo. It’s got a two prong plug.
