DIY Planar speakers ???

Been trying to find some info on a Kit or DIY planar speakers like Meggies?

I read it a long time ago. I don't recall if he did a planar magnetic (a la Magnepan with a coil stuck to a diaphragm) or a true ribbon (a la Apogee where the coil is the diaphragm). It's an interesting read either way and shows how to do it.

It looks like a sort of hybrid. A magnepan type in principle, but with flat ribbon on the membrane instead of round wire. At least that what it appears to be at first glance.
I'll read it in more depth tomorrow. Looks interesting.

Yeah- I hope this is a popcorn thread! I have the remains of a set of SMGa's with shredded mylar. I'd love to find a way to make use of the pole pieces! A sub would be too cool!

I knew a bunch of guys who built electrostatic panels using conductive plastic (Mylar I think) and Masonite perf board. The perf boards were coated with conductive paint and the plastic film was stretched tightly over insulating gaskets around the edges of the perf boards with the conductive paint facing inward. The plastic was connected to the center tap of the push pull output transformers and the perfboards connected to the plates of the output tubes. These were built in 1 foot by two foot modules and about twelve of them made up a single speaker. Great sound.

They were put out of business due to patent infringement.
