Does the new D-100 have....

Everyone will get illuminated faceplates but yours.

Thanks,
Ron-C

Funny. I'm holding out for the C2500 myself but if that too doesn't have illumination then forget it. It is unacceptable to be cutting corners on products in this price range. :thumbsdn:

Actually you will need to stop the music from your computer before you shut the preamp off. When you are using JRivers in ASIO mode, C50 is controlling the data rate packets from your computer. This is a two-way communication over USB.
If you shut the C50 off while in ASIO mode you have then broken the communication between the computer and the C50. Your computer will show a McIntosh ASIO error message when thsi happens. So when you turn the C50 back on and it USB handshakes with the computer, which it will, it will not initiate playback since when you shut C50 down while playing, you cut the ASIO communication.
At this point simply shut JRivers off and restart it on your computer and the C50 will lock right on without restarting C50 again.
USB two way, ASIO bit perfect communication, is not PCM one way where you can unplug and replug a cable. I do not have a D100 here right now but I would suspect it will operate the same way.

Thanks,
Ron-C

+1....as my JRiver/computer setup to C48 works this way.

I will have to ask them. I have been using a prototype and it was lit just like the preamps. The problem is the bright lighting when these are shot. If it picks up to much of the golg teal it looks white.

Thanks,
Ron-C

Ron, have you had a chance yet to ask them yet? I do have a D100 on order. I work for one of your Canadian dealers and have met you in person few times now.

Ask what? Everthing lights up except the word Headphone above the headphone jack just like every other preamp.

Thnaks,
Ron-C

Early post stated that level and input does not light up and video of D100 on You Tube looked not input. level not lighted up

Thanks for confirming everything lights up

Nope. Three people who have now received theirs have confirmed that only the McIntosh logo lights up. The words INPUT and VOLUME do not light up. :thumbsdn:

I took delivery of a D100 today, and mine most definitely does *not* have a fully lit faceplate. I really wish it did .. it looks funny sitting on top of the MA6600 without the control labels being lit. It's also hard to read from more than two feet away.

I was obviously miss informed, the input and volume lettering above the knobs does not light up.

Thanks,
Ron-C

Interesting that your prototype has all the labels lit. You might want to double check that.

There are no doubt many members here who think we're being petty about whether the nomenclature is back-lit. Obviously the quality of the sound is most important and we're very grateful that Mac has continued that 'tradition of excellence' for so may decades. however another tradition of excellence is the pleasure owners experience while using Mac gear and how, unlike most anything else, the back-lit controls and buttons on the Mac's are easy to identify in the dark, not to mention the esthetic beauty of this feature displayed in our listening rooms.
If this is not simply a 'first run' production fluke but is actually a cut-back, then I think it is unacceptable.
Call me petty if you like, but that would be a deal breaker for me; I'll stick with my plan to get a C48.

D100 is too thin to fit the illumination above the two knobs. Yes, C48 has both input and volume illuminated.

thanks,
Ron-C

It is disappointing the d100 faceplate is not fully illuminated, however, moving up to the $2,000 more expensive c48 simply for the fully illuminated faceplate seems to be a case of cutting off the nose to spite the face. Additionally, the c48 does not have the much requested ESS Sabre Dac chip.

I use a C48 and love it. Great DAC, great phono section and the tuner sounds just the way I like it when I use the EQ.
What some may not know is how deep, wide and stable the stereo image is on C48/C50. It is a lifetime preamp.

Thanks,
Ron-C

Ron-c,

As I mentioned earlier, I just took delivery of a D100. I haven't tried connecting my PC to it via USB yet. Are there drivers that I need to load (OSX and/or Linux) before I can use it?

-Matt

Matt,

D100 is a high speed USB dac that will need a PC with USB2.0 high speed capabilities. In the case of most operating systems this means 2010 or newer.
McIntosh supplies a USB 2.0 driver that can be loaded on your computer since Windows does not supply this. We have the driver under resources of the C48, C50 or D100 model on the www.mcintoshlabs.com website.
What computer, music program and operating system are you now using?

Thank you,
Ron-C

Thanks ron-c. I'll be primarily using a Squeezebox Touch, but on occasion I'll be connecting a Macbook Pro (2012 model) or older Linux laptop (running Ubuntu 12.04). Not sure what music app I'll use on the Macbook yet ... I still haven't figure that piece out.

Are drivers needed for OSX as well?
