DUAL 1219 Tonearm Issue

Recently, my Dual 1219 has started producing a static sound from the speakers when the tonearm moves to the play position and when lowering to the LP. No static when playing.

Ideas?

My first guess would be that the audio contacts that mute the audio are dirty. The contacts are located next to the large plastic gear and the wires from the tonearm go to it. Maybe try some deoxit on those contacts.

I'll give it a look. I have no Deoxit. Not a DIY guy, myself. But I'll see if I can get some and give it a shot.

Might also be worth taking a look at the tonearm cables.
I've had to tether mine down between the arm and the mute switch (I used a small dab of blu-tac).
I was getting a noise similar to what you describe as the cables moved relative to the switch - I know I need to do a full re-wire here, this is a bit of a stop-gap until I can find the time.

I would also check the headshell. The wires to the cartridge, and the contacts on the sled may be loose or dirty.
