Dual 604 Problem

I would like to lube a Dual 604 turntable and have found the platter to be siezed on the spindle (in theory it should be held be gravity alone). Does anyone have a suggestion for a non-destructive procedure to rempve the platter?? Thanks

I had the same problem when I did mine the first time. You just have to use patience and some force to get it loose the first time. Probably just from being on for so long. Some of the other Duals had a ring to hold the platter but there isn't one on my 604.
Keep at it.

Duals are notorious for this... I scrape up my fingers every time I remove the platter on mine. Most platters have the two openings you can get your fingers in, then using a small block and your thumbs on top the spindle, you can pull up as evenly as possible. Like Detailman said...patience with force!

Someone told me to tap gently, very gently, on the spindle with a hammer, ymmv, disclaimer: I'm not responsible, etc...

Good luck!

And if patience and force fail you, explosives work nicely...

I want to use some tnt everytime I have to put on or remove a cartridge on the stinkin head shell. Very poor design. They are hard to get plus expensive as hell and so easy to pull wires loose.
I've got about 3 or4 in pieces.

Just a small rant.

Success

Thanks for the help. I put an indent in a block of wood, used to to span the spindle and lifted the platter with my finger tips. After a few tries it came off.. Was lucky ..... thought I'd have to fabricate a puller.

Cheers
