Dynaco advice

Hi Everyone,

someone local is selling a pair of Dynaco A25 XL for $140.

I have never seen the bass port above the tweeter and would like some insight about this speaker.

I want to stack with Advent A3.

I've heard of A25s with the aperiodic vent on top, but not A25XLs. Also, to me, the tweeter in the photo looks more like an A25 tweeter.
In short, if I were betting I'd put my money on these being A25s.

But fun speakers either way.

One possible clue: does the selector on the back have 3 positions (XL) or 5 (original A-25)? The seller should be able to help you with that.

That's not an XL. The XL had a one-inch tweeter. Still, if in good shape, it's not a bad deal for an A-25 pair.

The A25 is an outstanding speaker, very punchy for it size and quite smooth sounding. They are simple and easy to work on, and very small relative to other 10inch two ways.

Yes, they appear to be A25s. The drivers are Scanspeak as can be seen in the photos and that version was produced with the aperiodic vent on top.

Another clue is that the A25 had a 5 position tweeter level control, the A25XL has a 3 position level control. That was for the SEAS Dynaco. I have no idea what Scanspeak did......

I can confirm that the Scanspeak A25 also used the 5-position control (I own a pair).
