Easy SE for the Masses

Thanks Doug, I bet that Darling works well with Nirvanas. The next project I'm thinking about is some cast AN 15's in my 6.2 cabs.
 
Great post, I am considering building the Clementine for 6L6's. a friend gave me 5 NOS-JAN 6L6's.

Looks like my powdercoating might fall through. He only has black at the moment. I'll find out for sure tomorrow. I did check with my auto painter. He'll clear it for free if I go that way. :thmbsp:

I'm also needing a good shielded cable for the inputs.(suggestions) Not going to use the Alps pot. I might want to change the circuit to UL later. If you do this, (UL) you will need a preamp with some gain.

I have used "Low Noise Microphone Instrument Signal Cable Copper Braid 22 AWG" from Parts Express (Part #100-220) to very good effect on several amp builds/rebuilds. I have used it for very long input runs under the amp and it has kept them dead silent.
 
I have a Darling amp I use mostly for headphones. It is silky smooth and detailed - love it! I didn't build it; so, I can't take much credit for the build.

Hard to visualize the scale of those transformers, but they sure look huge for SE I'm thinking. Sound might get lost in there... Sure an interesting project!
 
:scratch2: :D The OPT's measure 3.750w x 3d x 2.5t. each one weighs 4lb.2oz. I really wanted to use Electra-Prints. Maybe the next amp. :yes:
 
Got a little more done today. Made the basic frame. Used red oak 1 x 3 from HD. Still need to router the edges and put in supports.

That's some nice work there, Mark! I wish I could cut a straight line in wood... I learned awhile back that it's best I left that to the experts!
 
Got the top plate done today! Sanded with 1500 wet&dry then 2000. Took it to my auto painter and buffed it out with three stages of compound. Still need to apply wax and buff. It's slick. Looks like polished nickel.

That looks great! Did you decide not to paint it? I'd leave it like that, but that's just what I like.
 
Yeah, I checked with another powder coat place. They wanted 75.00 to do it in hotrod red. Also the buildup of the coat was about 2mils. It would have made everything a pain. I took it to my painter and he said I could clear it but, it wouldn't look as nice as polished. So we had a few beers and polished it out. The reflections on the pic are from the stuff on my wall. I hope to finish the wood work tomorrow.
