Don't know if anyone can help with this, but is the Empire 999x bodies the same as a 2000 body? Same dimension/build? Will they accept the same stylus or are they round shank? Much thanks tor any help.

The answer really is it depends.

Empire's cartridge numbering system became so random toward the end of the '70s that you could have model names beginning with 999 that could be nearly anything. I'm not aware of a "999" clone of the 2000E/I,II,III family, but the same thing happened to "2000"-- it was mined for random model names itself.

So you have to take it on a case-by-case basis, because there were no rules once the private-label name-game really got going. This was true of Empire as well as Shure and ADC and even the sainted Pickering/Stantons. I will say that I have never caught Empire giving the same name to different cartridges. Confusingly similar, but never the exact name.

It also depends on how picky you are and what kind of sound you want. Mismatches sometimes produce happy results, sometimes sad, but very seldom a day/night difference.
