Hello everyone,
This is my first post here although I have been reading the AudioKarma forums for a while now.
I have loved records since I was about 2 1/2 years old (as long as I can remember, in other words.
Anyway, I have had an Empire 2000 E/III since 1976 and have always loved the way it sounds. :thmbsp: Sweet with no undue emphasis on any particular part of the audio range. I recently acquired both new E/III and E/I styli so I have been able to compare the two in the E/III body.
At the time, the E/III was the top of the "2000 E" series with the E/I being, of course, two levels below it. The main difference is that the E/III has a tapered cantilever as opposed to the E/I's straight. This gives the E/III a slightly broader frequency responce (5 - 35,000) compared to the E/I (8 - 32,000). The other difference is tracking force (1/2 - 1.5 grams for the E/III and 3/4 - 1.5 grams for the E/I). I know that in all practicality, they are both 1.25 - 1.5 grams which is where I set mine. The stylus color for the E/III is clear and the E/I is clear green. I hear very little difference between the two.
Soundwise, they are very similar to the Stanton 681EEE (which I also have)
The earlier Es were supplied with a clip on stylus guard made of gold metal that matched the cartridge body. Later, they used a flip-down plastic guard attached to the stylus itself.
I hope this info is useful and I feel that these carts usually don't get the recognition they deserve.
Regards,
Doug
