fisher 400

Does anyone have experience with a Fisher 400 stereo tube receiver? I have never owned a tube amp or receiver. I have owned many Marantz, Pioneer sx, Sansui, et.... functioning properly would the sound be warmer with the Fisher?

I have two 400’s and they sound wonderful. I will be rotating one back into use soon. I haven’t listened to it since I rebuilt the crossovers in my Forte’s so I want to hear it in all its glory again. I’m currently listening to my Scott 340B. I usually go from one to the other for a comparison of two nice receivers from the same era.

In late 1969 and still a teen I started worked at the Chrysler main engineering plant as a lab tech. I could take out any Chrysler product on the road for evaluation.

You will find that a restored Fisher tube receiver will have exceptional imaging (very holographic and 3D) and a tonal richness that dry-sounding 1970s Japanese solid state receivers cannot match.

I was thinking more along the 500 receiver but one just popped up quite close to me, and Larry sure speaks highly of the 400's voicing, and I had quite the fun time working on my Fisher integrated, so I went for it.

I think it is quite a testament that the OP should consider that I have seen quite a number of people come and go thru here since I have started and I have yet to see anyone disappointed with these Fishers after they get them restored, and that speaks volumes considering the number of other brand amps built over the years, and yet these old Fishers are still cherished by so many.
