Does anyone have a photo of how they fit K40Y-9 630v capacitors in a Fisher Receiver? Trying to install in Fisher 400.

I didn't shrink wrap my two K40's. Of course if there is an EMF effect because I didn't, that might explain the hum I could never completely eradicate. I've seen a few K40 installations and none of them were shrink-wrapped.

I doubt there's an EMF effect anymore than electrolytics give off. I thought they shrink-wrapped them because they thought the case is live, or conducts current. But there's no connectivity between the leads and the case - I just checked one. Maybe I'm missing something?
 
The top of the case which does not have that plastic covering is indeed live. I've been shocked big time by a couple on that SDS board I had.

Shrink-wrap doesn't provide a shield form extraneous signals such as induced hummmmmm. It only protects from electrical contact with other conductors (including body parts).
 
Bruce - Yes, that part of the 'lytic that is not covered by that plastic wrapping that exposes the metal case is indeed live. I got a couple of 200+ vdc shocks when I was removing the SDS board from my 500-C - that's how I know.

Now, if the root cause of why I got shocked was due to some other issue, I don't know. That SDS board had so many components in a tight space that it wouldn't surprise me if there were some "adjacency" (is that a word?) issue. In the attached image it was the top 2 (the left 2) that gave me the shock.

Thorne, I'm talking about shrink-wrapping a K40Y-9 cap - they're not electrolytics. I can't see how it would shock you not shrinked.
 
You asked this above: "Should all metal electrolytic caps underneath be shrink-wrapped too". That's to what I was responding. Sorry if I was unclear.
 
Someone should do a test. I know a few years back I probed around a russian PIO and didn't find them to be conductive. Forget exactly what I did; perhaps a continuity check on the body. I kinda recall probing around and not getting a signal. Put me at ease so save for one set, i've never shrink wrapped any of them.
 
Well I was trying to put them under wires where the original Caps were. Thanks for the photos. I got a ruler and ran it across the bottom the open unit and realized I had plenty of clearance I did heat shrink clear wrap the coupling capacitors. But the small .022uf I’ve had in the phono section I did not.
