The main reason for shrink wrapping them is the size of the K40Y-9's and clearances to other part leads that ARE live.
I went with K73's in my standalone 800c, and in the Exec's 800c, I've got K40Y-9's. Using either of them in the Exec, the one with the K40Y-9's I find the sound is too bright sounding (highs tend to shrillness), while the 800c with the K-73's don't have the shrillness. Other than that parts internally are identical in the signal path.
