I always like to trade from a position of strength/surplus, for something I can use. You have thirty receivers, and one ? Garrad 301. HMMMMM...:sigh:

i'd have to vote for keeping the 301 even if you didnt mention the arm that that you have on it.500c's are plentiful and it still might need some recapping etc.. which is more $$ to you after the initial trade. like dave said 30 recievers and 1 great t/t its a no brainer keep the garrard. im still kicking myself for selling mine a few yrs back that i picked up for 50 bucks .:sigh:

this is true. but i rarley ever use the 301, and its not in real good shape.
and i got a buttload of old receivers but only a handful of tube ones, and if my scott craps out, im gunna need a backup. i have about 15 tube receivers, only about 5 work, and only two work well.

thats way more than some people own so why not sell some of them or even your s/s gear and get the garrard fixed up :scratch2:
btw what tonearm is on the garrard that could be worth more than the 500c itself.
I'd not make that trade and I really like Fisher gear. 301s are worth a lot of money and one of the better vintage turntables out there, and at least one of the most sought after ones. But if you really don't use it, and really want the Fisher...at least you'd end up with something you'd use.

Depends. If you get the 500-C, you'll realize how many other receivers you don't need and you'd probably come out ahead. The 301? That's like a lump of dough. It could be great . . . but you'd have to invest time and money and knowhow.
Then again, I like Fishers a lot and value them and therefore am not neutral in this discussion.

I've seen 301's in pretty bad shape still fetch a grand...
A mint, fully restored 500C sold for $1000-1200 (I forget the exact number) from pacificstereo a month or two ago. Really nice stuff can pull in stupid numbers. I was unaware that some Garrard tables were worth that much. Kinda makes me curious which one my grandmother's is.
[edit]: You know, I'm seeing Garrard 301s on ebay in the $1000-2000+ range, so I would keep the table. And my grandmother's is definitely not that one.
