I just saw that the highest bid on a Garrard 301 (great loking shape, no arm, no plinth) is 1250€ which equals about 1775$.
Is Am I right in thinking that that's nuts or is that normal for a 301?

Was it an early gray painted one? They tend to go for much more.

It's a white/cream coloured unit.

But, :sigh:, ah well, I'll to stick with Lencos for now.

It seems that both the 310 and the Thorens 124 commands high prices these days.
Some people swear by them. Some tend to prefer newer TT for less. I am very curious and hopefully will be able to compare one day. The pairing with the right arm, cart and good plinth PLUS a full rebuild/service (supposedly) makes them very competitive. However, you might get into the $4-5,000 range once all done. Of course those who are very handy and have the expertise can reduce this amount significantly.

Personally, if I was going to spend >$4K on a TT, I'd go for a VPI Aries or Classic, which at that price comes with an arm. But maybe I'd change my mind if I heard that listed table, which is admittedly a top refurb job. I'd like to see some rumble specs on it though.

That one on ebay is awfully nice looking.... there was an interesting article in Stereophile recently about restoring a 301... good stuff indeed.
