I spoke to a fellow who was considering Sonus Fabers and asked him to seek out Canton Vento or Reference. He never responded, but later I spoke to him and he said he did and heard Cantons and liked what he heard, but price was a bit to much. I suspect that may be the problem with a lot of prospective buyers....Some people think im nuts for paying what I did for a stand mount when I could have easily paid that same money for a floor stander in a different brand. But knowing what Cantons can do, I would have not been satisfied. After getting the Cantons properly placed, run in, and you begin to listen as they disappear, you will be amazed at what you hear. A very well balanced sound stage with unbelievable imagining....that mid range energy and lushness is also outstanding. I own two pair of Cantons...Vento's and GLE's and neither of them require toe in....the dispersion is just that good. The GLE's have a soft dome tweeter which is very good, but the Vento's have the ceramic tweeter and its outstanding...the integration into the woofer is one of the best I've ever heard. That tweeter is outstanding and its very transparent with plenty of air....so transparent that if you have bad gear, you wont enjoy the Cantons at all....always have to have quality gear with them and you will really enjoy the emotional response as you sit and listen.

You should change your profile name to "Flexi King", your pics might motivate me enough to hit the home improvement store this weekend! I just got a VPI 16.5 and need a decent stand for it, and the one you built would work perfect!
That's a nice looking bunch of flexis you have there:thmbsp:. Now I'm wondering why I never made one before. It was such a pleasure to rehook up all the components. Just turn the flexy around, do the connections and spin it around into place. Much better than doing a contortionist act and holding a flashlight in my mouth which is what I'm used to.

Shoot..now I am going to have to build some! I have been looking at many different types but the flexi looks so good. Is it a PITA to get the shelves level?

Here's what I have for my gear rack, solid teak gables with heavy teak veneer shelves, picked it up for 20 at a yardsale. Don't have any pictures of it in use that arent really cluttered (lack of space atm) Holds LPs and gear great though
Nice open tenons on the corners, i'd say about 13 deep, 42 tall and maybe 4 feet wide. Really beautiful shelf

Not at all doing the leveling. I threaded the nuts on so they were even with the threads on the bottom of the threaded rod. From there I measured off the first shelf and for once something I made came out plumb, square and level.

:lmao::lmao::lmao: Now you sound like me...I can build a damn airplane from scratch but can't cut a piece of wood square for sh*t!
Ok I must admit I cheated a little bit. I had home depot cut the squares to the size I needed. It didn't cost any extra and it sure beats wrestling at home with a full sheet of plywood. But I did manage to drill all the holes straight by myself thanks to the level on the top of the drill.

That is the best thing about the flexi racks is being able to level them to where they are placed. I built my listening room in my garage so the floor is not perfectly level but the shelves on all the racks are perfect. If you end up having to move it to a different spot it is quick and easy to level it back up. It is even easier if you have just one rod centered on one side of the rack rather than using a rod on all 4 corners plus using only 3 rods saves on materials without any loss of stability.

First FleXy
Build my first FleXy over the weekend, still have to finish the shelves but it's too cold out. I just could not stomach dropping over $400 for two Salamander Archytypes. I went with the double and might have to add on another section above the VPI RCM in the near future so I have not cut down the rods on that side yet. Total spent was about $150 and half a Sunday. I spent a little extra making the legs/feet adjustable using a coupler + bolt + nut + rubber foot cover, was probably an additional $20.

Great work on the Flexi and the gear looks great on the rack.

If you want to hide those long threaded rods on the Flexi you can cover them with small PVC pipe, spay painted black.
A Dremel with a cut off wheel is an easy way to cut the threaded rods to your dimensions. It's less expensive to buy the longest rods and then cut them down. A file will correct any threads that won't accept a nut.
Rubber washers or grommets between shelves lessens vibrations.
HD and Lowes carries nice chrome caps to fit over the top nuts for a more finished look.
Three legs are easier to balance than four.
3/4 MDF is the cheap way to go and HD will cut the shelves. MDF is very dense and tough to paint unless you prime it first with Elmers wood glue mixed with water. I did some Flexi-stands in satin black rolled on MDF with quarter round oak trim molding. If I do a rack that's the combo for high WAF.
