I wondered myself. Upon reflection, I believe he meant to make one taller rack with pieces left over that could be used for short, single shelf amp stands.

Absolutely beautiful! While I've only recently dabbled in wood finishing, I'd love to be able to build my own rack some day.

Those type stands look great, but never have enough shelves. You're pretty confident that parts from two separate ones could be used to make one taller rack?
Another problem with those is no shelf with enough space for a reel to reel deck.
I may get a couple to fiddle with.
I basically have four different systems hooked up in this room so I needed more rack space. The big Bell came from a tag sale where the lady said it was her mother's curio display unit. Twenty dollars. The shorter, but very sturdy one came from an auction where apparently no one knew what it was. I got it for opening bid. Twenty dollars. I don't have much in the way of building skills, but I am pretty lucky. The room is still a work in progress, but I've got the parts. I just need to decide what stays or goes.

Though I'm sure are those that would stack them ten high (I'm not that brave), I see no reason why at least a fifth shelf couldn't be added. If weighted down no worry for tip over. Then you'd have room for turntable, preamp, external phono, disc player or dac and then amp.

All of my gear stands have all been bought at thrift stores. Two of them are the commercially Home Entertainment stands available at Best Buy etc..
The smaller glass and metal stand is from a company based in Germany Schroers and Schroers. From what I recall when I looked up the company they sell fairly pricy audio racks so I think my $20 was well spent.
The speaker stands for my Rogers BBC Monitors are the original ones purchased in England by the original owner.

I got to building a new enclosed rack during this lock down. It has a welded steel frame, with a hemlock wood exterior. Each piece of equipment is on drawer slides so completely accessible. Also the entire unit is on casters so can be rolled away from the Pony wall to get access to the back. 3 amps, a preamp, minidsp 4X10HD, a place for DAC's, headphone amp etc and a drawer for headphone storage.
I installed a cooling fan inside and this controller keeps the temp constant within a degree with variable fan speed.

Thanks! This project had been rolling around in my head for a while, maybe 2 years, then while there was still snow on the ground I started welding the frame outside in the driveway.
My wife always hated all the exposed wire around my triamped stereo gear so this was a way to hide all of that.
The steel frame, installing the drawer hardware out in the shop.
In the house installing the gear from the terribly overloaded book case to their new home.
I have the paired speaker cable routed under the floor over to each speaker so very little wire is visible, and the wife is happy again with the large stereo!
