Genesis 2 restoration

Wonderful work. I'm excited to see another pair of Genesis/EPI's done right - I'm pretty early into this hobby, but up to this point the Genesis/EPI sound is my favorite of all of the speakers I've listened to, and it was a pair of Genesis V-6 speakers picked up at a yard sale for $4 that were my first refoaming project and rekindled my love for vintage audio. I've since picked up two pairs of EPI 100's, EPI M150's, Epicure 400+, and am planning to sell most of my other speakers because I'm so happy with them in general.

yep ! passive is on the bottom.

Are the larger cones passive radiators? I don't recognize the tweeters. They don't look like the standard Genesis/EPI/Epicure inverted dome.

These were a more recent upgrade with new tweeters at the time. If refoam isnt too pricey they could be a really nice set. fairly efficient too.

had a set of these back in the day very nice! inverted tweeters were correct. they were very very listenable, and efficient also. ran them with a marantz 1060 and they sounded great. good luck!

Lee-- Now that is some beautiful work and restoration!! Nice. Here's one vote for covering the screws with the second foam ring. Just looks super clean that way. :thmbsp:

Here is a picture of what the replacement tweeters look like without their grills.

Just thought I'd share that.

I have to say, these speakers have the largest place in my heart. I LOVED the Genesis ll speakers and when they died I let them go. I should have fixed them like you gents have but noooooo. I do miss them so.

Here is how mine looked with the original tweeters. GREAT speakers, get them done right and enjoy.

I too am a big fan of the Genesis/EPI sound as you can see from my signature line.

I addition to those, which I am keeping, I have recently acquire a pair of EPI 100V and 300A both of which I am gifting on.

I want more! I've got my original 2+s and an orphan V6. A pair was up here on CL recently but they went fast. I am sad.

You guys should check out Barter Town, several pairs available on there.

Old thread, but have to say...I can't wait to hear these in person. Amazing job done on these, and extremely clean. All the good reads I see on these, really make me want them more. Sounds like they will shame my Realistic Nova 10's, Lol.

I have some Genesis Model 1 speakers and had some Model 10 s. Very transparent and detailed speakers.

Hi back in high school I bought a bran new pair of Genesis 320 speakers. They had like a 4" cone midrang and dual 8" long throw woofers with there famous 4 layer voice coils and there was a peace of rubber attached to the magnets so if the voice coil traveled to far it wouldn't get damaged. Very heavy duty 8" woofers for sure that can take some solid juicy. They sounded very very good but we kept blowing the Tweeter's back then so I sold them. New replacement Tweeter's are said to be more durable.

Yea, I keep looking at these until this Thursday. I know some may say there's no comparison, but for humor's sake. What do you think of these against a set of Realistic Nova 10's, obviously for anyone who has heard the Nova series before? I have a pair as my main right now. They're my first set since coming back into the vintage thing, and do sound really good, considering I've been listening to compressed crap through a sound dock for the past three years, Lol.

@leesonic ,
Thanks for sharing all this! I love your restoration job. I'm on the verge of buying a pretty beat up pair of Genesis Model II's locally. What did you make the green gaskets out of? They look great!

I saw you removed the dust caps to shim the woofer during the refoam. Do you remember where you got the new dust caps, and how easy it was to put them back in place?

This will be my first speaker rehab project of any kind, and I'm a bit nervous. Thank you!
