Going Digital!

Eastwind aint cheap, either. But I do order vinyl from them......Ebay is my first choice for CD's because 95% of the time they're lots cheaper for Cd's.....then rip to DSD128....send to the DSD DAC where the magic is heard.

Let's see if I've got this right. You're saying, ripping a CD and converting it to DSD for playback through a DSD capable DAC sounds better than the CD before conversion.:dunno:
Please explain this for me.

Yes Sir! Why else would those in the know do it? Or down load them? Lots of information on those disc...better resolution and a few other things..... the little nuances aren't audible from a CD player. Joe...where you been man, are you late to that party?

I have options to play with for now when it comes to cables and and usb regenerators. I just pulled all the digital stuff apart and I am starting over with the Supra cable from the PC to the Regen and the Regen directly coupled to the iDSD. The iUSB is out of the loop for while. Also the USB 3.0 type cable is out. I just wanted to get a better idea of what the Supra does on its own.

Hello Lee Harvey,

That sounds like a great plan, as once again it was troubling me to even recommend the Supra to you or anyone else, as I do tend to try in be very resourceful while doing my research into items of interest, and seeming that it was recommended by the UpTone Audio guys to be used with the Regen, and then hearing it..............., I merely felt it deserved the attention of Regen owners here whom might've overlooked it.

In my system, it simply steps aside and presents every single note in a rather smooth manner, yet with very nicely detailed top ends and some of the best bass I've encountered regardless of its price, but my offer stands..........., if you don't like it?, I'll be happy to buy it from next Friday. I simply hope that you hear from it what I'm getting at this very moment?, as it might be simply that it's system dependent or just plays differently with cables with other sorts of metal conductors?, I can't say as my IC from the iDSD is military spec'ed heavily silver plated copper using wire from NASA that's over 30 years old, with the Supra which is tin plated copper much like the cabling from the 30s into the 80s like Western Electric amongst others, and then a copper based AC cord and Speaker Cables where the combined sound is very very very much to my likings in many ways even more so then when the other USB cables are in the system..............., yet I've my fingers and toes crossed in hopes that it does work out for you?, as it's a very beautiful sound overall.

But I'll be following your findings either way.

I just stumbled upon D-Sonic amplifiers and had to have one, Dennis at D -Sonic just changed these to M3-1200S-P with Pascal modules from the M3-1200S-A. So new the website isn't updated.

Yes, it's class D but unlike any class D you could imagine! It's a tube like sound in an ultra powerful efficient package. It's a $10,000 amp that sells for $1875.

My McIntosh was out of the rotation so fast your head would spin! The D-Sonic with my Modwright tubed pre has digital flying higher then I thought possible!

Way to go............., having personally hear a few of the Bel Canto amps as well as the Rogue Audio Sphinx in a local shop as well as a friends system........., I'd say that I care less that some folks don't like the sound of Class D amps, but the reality of it is, I believe most don't know what they're listening for............, as another friend has dropped his Naim Nait 5i-2 in favor of one of the Micromega Integrated's and he and his friends whom heard them side by side swears it literally beat the dog shite out of the Nait, and being that these happen to be two guys to which I know have great ears............, I can see why they both decided to go this route.

And the weird thing is............., I heard the Rogue driving a pair of the older Maggie's 1.7s, and felt it was one of those magical moments where the combination locked onto one another so perfectly, it was hard not to like the end result.

Congratulations on your new baby..........., and since the wife likes the sound..........., it goes without saying it, but it seems you've chosen wisely on all counts.

Yes, I have had the Rogue Audio Pharaoh for close to half a year & have absolutely NOOOOO complaints about it. Rogue seems to have gotten the Class-D/tube hybrid formula down right.

HI Ben,

And that's exactly the point I'm getting at..........., it's what the end user hears that matters, and I think that a lot of these dealers with their noses turned up, better get on board or be prepared to lose quite a few sales. And like you........., I know that Rogue got it right, and have been offering domestically great sounding and priced gear as an alternative to Chinese made components that anyone can afford as compared to the greedier companies stating that their entry level tube Integrated's start at $5.000, whom aren't then thinking about the average joe in so much as catering to the 1-2% whom merely buy said items passed upon these companies past glories or reputation, when in fact many of them don't even offer tube gear that sounded half as refined as their earlier 1985|95 stablemates offered.

And in fact many sound more solid state then solid state, when I do move onwards to another integrated, it'll be either said Sphinx as a bare minimum, or Audio Note Kit L1 or Oto SE or a Croft Hybrid Integrated as logic proves that either are more then capable of driving my Totem The One Speakers, so in my mind I'd much prefer refinement over raw power any given day or the week, and twice on Sunday's.

Happy listening Ben, and when you're ready to try a few different flavors in USB cables?, as per my offer to Lee Harvey, know that I've 7 of them lying around, as my quest for said designs has reached its end.

Be well,

Thanks for your offer about the Supra Oscar. I am going to hang on to it for a bit as I give it time to burn-in and I have time to assess how it works in my system. The PM1's come with foam plugs for the ports on the speakers. I have inserted those this morning to help deal with too much bass boom in my room. Like I said earlier I have some options to play with to fine tune the system for now before making big jumps into a new amp or speakers.

Your welcome Lee Harvey,

And while I'm able to admit there are times when we tend to generalize how things will work more universally in others system as much as they work in ours, there are times where synergy does have its merits as well. And you do in fact have to figure out in the long run which route would prove worthwhile as far as upgrading your system goes?, as your PM1s as heard with a tube integrated really did impress me, yet in going after the Harbeth C7-ES3s in tandem with your Exposure integrated should prove a nice alternative to integrated like the Sonneteer Campion that I once owned that ArtK uses with his pair, and have heard in our home and found it to be a very well matched pairing, as something like a Nait 5i-2 to my taste takes the sound in a totally different harder hitting direction.

But in truth, it shall always come back full circle on which flavor of cabling one craves?, as it's a well known fact that Chord Company cables are slightly more detailed, while those from the Mogami NextGen Line are more neutral in nature, while Supra cables on a whole are more about refinement and delicacy as opposed to Hi-Fi sounding, and as I've their USB - Speaker Cables and LoRad AC Cord as alternatives to my usual CRL Bronze Series and TWL 10+ Power Cord, each has their moments with different gear where I know in my heart that to beat either would then cost me several thousand dollars more.

So universal or not?, I've much in these brands to admire enough to stay put............., but once again, the ball is in your court......, so let's see where it decides to roll?, best wishes to you no matter which route proves worthy?, as it's your call as always, as you've no one to please more then self.

While at a friends house whose complete system is wired with Ansuz product i noticed that he had an Ansuz Diamond USB cable that he just added to his system along with Raidho D5 speakers. While i was familiar with the sound of his system when he had the Raidho i think they were called the C4.1`s with the D5`s his system took another leap so i was unable to judge the USB cable at all with the new speakers in place. So does anyone else have experience with the Ansuz USB cable? Thanks.

Hi Dave,

While the owner of the forum AudioShark Michael has told me about them as well as their cables and isolation devices and AC harmonizers in the past, and they make for a great read as provided below, I found all their designs a tad to rich for my blood, as their USB cables start at $990 and upwards:

http://www.audioshark.org/cables-20/ansuz-cables-accessories-2488-page27.html

But as you do own a Lampizator Level 4, this sort of would be more appropriate to someone playing in the deeper end of the pool, it seems these and Nordost are often referred to in many of the same conversations, as I went with the Nordost QV-2s instead of the Ansur versions at $800 per pop, all of a sudden those $350 QV-2s seemed like a bargain.

From what I've gathered there only appears to be 2-3 shops in the states carrying their wares.

I'll be following this one with great interest.

Yikes!! If i read their pricing right the USB is over 2k. I had no idea but considering his system it does not surprise me. Too rich for me also lol. I have the Nordost Blue Heaven USB and i`m happy with it, well... until i hear something better.

While his speakers were unbelievable and they should be for the price he mentioned that i should listen to the Alta Audio Rhea speaker, he is now the second person who has told me that, have you heard these?

Yes........., their pricing is rather extreme, and no I've never heard of these speakers, but they do look nice, as I'm fond of metal alloy as well as rbbon based tweeter designs, and love this finish|color:

Very nice looking speakers. Now i need to find a way to get a listen for myself, my friend heard them while back east which does not help me and the next audio show here will not be for six more months.

Yes, it most certainly is.........., and this is coming from someone with a bias towards Mini-Monitors.

As always........., I'll be watching from the shadows and see where this leads. Have a great and safe weekend Dave.

Thanks, you do the same.

Brotha B | Lee Harvey,

Either of you guys care to offer an update on the 3.0 USB cabling concepts that both of you're trying out on said iUSB 3.0 of yet?, as I'm still curiuos about the end results, and Byron I know that you mentioned trying the WW Starlight 7 3.0, so I'm definitely still following this with an open mind.

Have a great weekend fellas.

I ordered a SUPRA USB cable on Oscars recommendation .I have also rolled in some Tubes that Oscar recommended
My system has never sounded better.
All I can say is that brother was blessed with some good ears. Thank you Oscar.

Thanks for that Rich,

And it goes without saying........, but you're more then welcome.

As that means a great deal to me, as I do prefer to speak the truth on this items as I hear them, and merely hope that it's not in my head?, as my goal has always been to assist others whom haven't explored certain things as much as I've............, it's merely that I do tend to think outside the box and am willing to sample items as a means of knowing how things work on a more global scale as opposed to merely following what's written without questioning the fact of

" what if? ".

As there are times when one has to ask the harder questions, unless one feels that everything written holds truth?, and once again, I don't mind doing the legwork and then spread the word on anything which I believe others might enjoy at a faction of the cost of what the big boys demand.............., as there are times when cheaper items merely cover their behinds better due to being more forgiving and aren't as brutely forced in their voicing as to much resolution as we all know ( or should ) like real bass cost tens of thousands, yet the illusion of such at smaller prices are just that, and only if implemented correctly does that sense of " truthfulness " comes through.

Synergy and Clicking do in fact go hand in hand.............., subjective as always, but in therory it's a blessing to have a nice set of ears as it relates to time signature | pitch | timbre and transparency.

Thanks again for trusting in my senses once again little Brotha, and I merely use the term loosely as I'm certain that many if you're younger then I, as well as my height when I'm able to stand tall without being bent over on crutches, so please don't take offense.
