BOOMER 615.....Did you find the 4 little philips screws.... in each corner yet?? I found 2x sets of SP-3500's ...$50/pr.+$35/pr. 1X PR. SPX-2500 + 2PR. OF SP-2500's....cheap...all under $30.00 pr......+ about 10 other smaller pairs of Sansui speakers Bought a nice pair of Cast aluminum framed 12" woofers for $20 Sansui Receivers....8080 $46.00 8080DB $40.00 7070 $15.00 additional..771,661,551, 2x 210's..... Sansui Rear Channel Quad Amp, 2 Reverbs, turntable??....assorted black face amps x5....a couple of tuners#?? Sold the 8080DB for $150..working!! & Swapped the 7070 for a Seaburg Jukebox....which I sold for $150 The rest are all stored in my attic.....except the 8080 receiver which my son is using to power 4x Realistic MACH 1'S in his room!

A cute little pair of Mission mini monitors in near perfect shape for $5. First thing I found that was well worth the price in a long while. I'm not into receivers so I probably have walked by some gems over the years while looking for that Hafler or Parasound amp.

Got a cute Kenwood programmable power switch for $10. Lets you program things to turn on and off, but I use it as a clock in my stereo room. Looks like a digital tuner.

Just picked up a pair of Mission 700s (the earlier white-faced version) at the GW Outlet Warehouse (Rows of giant rolling bins full of--stuff, which the 'shoppers' get to paw through). Woofers need refoaming, decent cosmetics, $10 the pair.

Okay, last run at SA I picked up a Sony CDP-470 with the remote - everything works and it sounds very nice - I'm listening to it right now!

AND

a Garrard 630S TT all there, Pickering V-15 cart w/ ATE 4 stylus which somebody BROKE THE CANTILEVER!!!!!! - sorry! :sigh: Guess I will put this up in the closet next to the Garrard 42M until I figure out what I want to do with them.

I seem to be finding a lot of Garrards lately. :scratch2:

Walked into Bible For Missions today....Found a pair of KEMTRON KS-300's. 30-18,000range 3 way...12" woofer,6" midrange,and 3" cone tweeter ,all Vintage early 70's Canadian made "Marsland - Pacers".... Very nice vintage paper cone sound!! The lady in the thriftshop said ,that they had be sitting too long...so how about $5.00 for the pair. Out came the $5.60 including tax....

Very nice! Good to hear that there are finds in area thrifts. My rounds have been unproductive lately.

BTW - if you walk by any silver receivers, drop me a note! I'll be glad to move those out & free up the shelf space for the Hafler / Parasounds they are waiting to put out for you! :thmbsp: :thmbsp:

Superscope r-1240 - $10 pots needed cleaning, and bulbs, sounds great!
Sansui SP-Z9's $25/pr (anybody have info on these?) Sound beautiful!
Marantz SP1200's $20/pr Minty too!
Dual 1450? $10 (I wll check when I get home) needed work, but works perfect now.

I decided to go to Decatur, Al., about 20 miles west of Huntsville. I haven't been there in months. I stopped at the SA there, found a silver Nakamichi BX-2 cassette & a B&O 1800 TT with a MMC5 cart, The Nak had one dead channel, so I passed. The 1800 platter turned, got it for $5. Went to the Downtown thrift, saw a near mint pair of BSR Thunder Lizards ( I think that's what DAK called them ) but they were sold. They had a 15" woofer, mid & tweet on the front & mid & tweet on top that fired upward. not much else. I picked up a few CD's. Went to pay & spotted a Philips CDR775 Dual tray recorder box behind the counter. Asked if it was for sale, Clerk said it was returned not working. Priced $60. Manager said I could have it for $5 so they wouldn't have to chunk it. Got it home, hooked it up, It played & recorded fine, Go Figure. had the remote, manual, several blank CD audio discs & several audio cables. Made me happy.

I seem to get ALL of my audio gear from thrift stores. Here's what I bought over the last couple of months:

1. Nakamichi RX-505 Cassette Deck, unfortunately not working...but I could not pass on this for $15.
2. Sony STR-7055 Receiver for $10, currently using this in the bedroom and I am really loving the sound...switched from a Sansui AU-217 that I got at a thrift store a few years ago, and that was switched from a Yamaha CA-800, also from a thrift store.
3. JVC A-X901 Integrated Amplifier, I just sorta had a feeling about this one. I never look twice at JVC gear but this one immediately caught my eye. After buying it for an astronomical $40 at a thrift store, I did some research and found that this is essentially the same as the JVC A-X900 except the colors are different and the X901 was actually marketed towards video editing studios. A really interesting unit and it sounds great so far. Has MM/MC phono stage, which is a plus for me because my main turntable has a MC cart.

There have been MANY other finds, but these are the most recent.

$13.00 Kitchen System.....

Todaywhile wandering through a local thriftstore... I found an nice compact...Silver Faced Realistic STA-720 Digital Receiver for $8.00 + a $5.00 pair of black vinyl Sound Acoustic SE5BE bookshelf speakers..5-150 watts 89dB 50-20k...5" woofer + 1" dome tweeter....They sound great for a $13.00 system!! The Bass is quite impressive for the size! Great for my kitchen...above the cupboards!! Replaces my Pioneer SX-3400 ($6.00) + Koss M75's(6.00) + 8" Bazooka Sub ($5.00) I just need to clean them up now.....still a lil' dusty!

Elton John - Goodbye Yellow brick road. I think this is an early copy of it or something, cause unlike my other one, this one doesn't fold open, and the two albums are in one sleeve, and all the pics of the band are in a black and white book with the sleeve. Maybe a bootleg?

Went to a flea market in Louisville yesterday and to my utter shock there was no audio equipment to be found anywhere on the premises save for an Optimus CD-1660 CD player that came home with me for $10. Not a bad little unit to my surprise!

Went shopping at just about every venue I know in my area to hunt. Wound up bringing home a Technics SL-P150 CD player for $10 as well as a Yamaha CDX-900u CD player from a local pawn for $15. Saw lots of odds and ends today but no receivers or amps. I also came across several Sony 5 disc changers while on the hunt, but no ES machines so I passed 'em all by......they didn't feel heavy enough to serve as a decent paperweight.

I also saw a beautiful pair of Tannoy bookshelf speakers but they were priced at what I thought was way too high for pawn shop fodder, just under $200.

It doesn't really count, since it was at an estate sale and not a thrift store...but I picked up a Zerostat for $1 today, too.

Figured out how to do the speakers. There's a ground plug in the middle for both sets. You can have it switch between two sets of speakers, or play both, and has phono inputs. It sounds amazing.

picked up a couple of things last night at a local goodwill:

kenwood ka-70 amp
1 b&w dm17 speaker
1 jbl l65 speaker with the woofer replaced with a cerwin vega.

today,

a set of cerwin vega 8" speakers for 8 bucks, woofers need surround. 8 bucks

a sansui model 2000 receiver. this receiver is so mint that it still has the blue plastic protective coating around the edge of the faceplate. 5 bucks!

Thrift Store Score!

Sat hit my usual spots. One I almost did not go to but went anyway after striking out everywhere else. Saw some decks sitting outside on a table, apparently just donated. Got all four pieces four $23.00. All pieces in very clean shape. A Audio Pulse Model One Digital time delay, a Pioneer CT-M6R 6 tape cassette deck, A Nakamichi 550 portable cassette deck minus power adapter, runs on 8 D cell batteries. But the big score was a Nakamichi CR-7A cassette deck . My jaw dropped when I saw it. Scooped them up real quick, plugged them in to make sure they worked, payed my paltry pittance & ran. Hooked the 7a when I got home. Put my 3 head Yammie deck to shame. I'll check out the 550 a soon as I get some batteries. Only thing would have sweetened this deal was if the 7a remote was with it. I'll keep an eye on ebay for one.
