Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

Last month I found a MB Quart D1200si 12" powered sub for $30. Hooked it up in my theater and it moves the floor. :)

Howdy fellas! Just got this at GW for $17.00 - a Sony TC-WR701ES dual cassette deck with Dolby B, C and S noise reduction.

The cassette eject button for the "A" deck wouldn't open the door and there was a cassette in it, the "B" eject worked fine. I got it home and took it apart and found the "A" deck head was not retracted enough to unlock the door mechanism. The motors were working on both decks and the flywheels were free so I assume the belts are shot.

New belts are ordered but they won't be here until next Tuesday - dang it! :sigh:

I got an sx3700 for $1.99 once, cleaned her up, found a knob, and sold it for $50 :D

This week I got a Newcomb record player/pa amp for $30. Absolutely mint! Gutted it of its PP 15 watt 6v6 amplifier and used the speaker cabinet it came with. Cheapest darned deluxe I've come across!! I think my best was a Zenith console for $5 with a quad of amperex 6BQ5's in it though..

I've had some pretty cool finds in the last month ..

Sansui SP-Z99's - $80 - Thrift store
Pioneer CS-99a's, near mint - $20 - Sitting in a dark corner in a pawn shop :D
CAL Icon II CD - $80 - craigslist
ADS L570/II's - $18 - Goodwill
Denon PMA-1315R - $50 - Same pawn shop
Full PA system - 4 speakers w/12" Bag Ends & EV ST350B horns, two giant subs with 18" Bag Ends - all for $120 - Again, SAME Pawn shop, and yes, it's location is classified. :smoke:

I missed out on a neat set of vintage Harman Kardon 2 way bookshelf speakers at Goodwill. There wasn't a price tag on them and I didn't take the time to ask for assistance :o. Oh well, hopefully someone who needed them more than I is enjoying them.

Over the Christmas holidays, I checked the local value village in my parents hometown. Found a beautiful pair of Bang and Olufsen Form 1 headphones for $4, as well as a Rotel RD 960BX Tape deck (MSRP $500) for $20. Those headphones sound great!

Goodwill:
Luxman D90 CD player $10
Mission Center Speakers $15

Value Village:
B&O Form 1 Headphones $4
Rotel RD 960BX $20

Was at my local SA today and came up zip with stereo equipment. Went back and found the wife and followed her around for a while. She was ready to go and I decided to cruise back around where they put their electronic/stereo equip. My heart skipped a beat when I saw something that looked like maybe a receiver (or something) - they had just put it out!

Here is my score for $24.99 - a Pioneer SX-727 that is in super shape. All of the lights work including the dial pointer and both meters work. I cleaned it up and put a little orange cleaner on the wood.[/I

Had a few great scores. Here are some of the most recent:

Pioneer SX-1250 in great shape $5 at a yard sale.

AR3a loudspeakers in a Boston area record shop $25

Teac 2340sx in excellent condition in the trash at the curb.

KLH Model Six loudspeakers in beautiful shape at the curb.

Sonab (of Sweden) receiver at the curb w/ instruction manual, perfect shape.

Technics integrated amp (can't remeber the #, was 40 wpc and NICE) at the curb.

The top 3 I will never sell, I use them almost daily. The bottom three are making someone else very happy. It's amazing what some people think is junk. If I were to come across the crap that probably replaced these items I'm sure I wouldn't even look twice

*EDIT* I almost forgot - my landlord left a McIntosh MAC 1700 receiver (mint) and a Miracord PW10H turntable sitting on my doorstep. That was my main receiver for many years after that, finally needed more power so I had to let it go.

Ok marantzaholic, you'll like this, pair of HD 77's in damn fine shape last month at Goodwill for 110.00

Sweet score Duguana. Try to post some pics if you can. My last good speaker score was a pair of a/d/s/ B8 I found in a pawn shop. Since they look like generic black speakers, most people don't give them a second look. Another one of those "fly under the radar" kind of buys we're all bragging about here.

I have found N-O-T-H-I-N-G frequenting the thrift stores here in N. Fla so am very envious of the stories I hear.Have had a little luck on Craigs when I scored SDA-1B's for $140.Flea markets and yard sales have turned up enought to put a decent system together and did get a pair of ESS with Heils for $50.Best story I ever saw was an ebay sale for a Marantz tuner, pre, and mono blocks picked up at a thrift store - selling price? $12,000.00!!
