Goodwill/SA/Thrift Store Discussions & Finds

Today, a couple LP's - Blood Sweat and Tears / (self titled) and Nat King Cole / Love, ...oh, and a Carver TL-3100 CD player for $14.99. :D

Well, I hunt too (the weekly fleamarket), tonights finds included (and all working!):

Lenco L75 with Ortofon pickup in original teakwood cabinet (good condition, intact wood cabinet and dustcover), :music:
Technics SL-BD22D (excellent condition),
QLN QuBiC 111 (rear)speakers (with 12 feet OFC 0.25mm cabling each) (near-mint condition), and finally
Yamaha RX-300 Receiver (in acceptable condition).

I spent just below $25 for those items. I plan on keeping the Lenco, the rest will go to new homes, divine powers willing :thmbsp:

Thrifts have been picking up again for me. In the past several months or so I've managed to snag a pair of Pioneer HPM-500s, Large Advents, a/d/s B8 monitor speakers, Nikko TRM-750 intergrated amplifier, Pioneer SX-750 receiver (a peach. nice sound. my first classic Pioneer), Nikko 6065 receiver, Marantz PM-950/ST-950 amp-tuner combo, Akai GX-255 reel to reel, Harman Kardon hk825 preamplifer (unfortunately it was not working) and a pair of a/d/s L400e speakers (white).

It tends to be feast or famine in my area. Keep searching guys, the gear is out there. You just have to be persistent.

best thrift store find

Hi, People Im new here but not to thrift store finds!
My best find was at a thrift store I found a pair of Cerwin Vega AT-12 for
$2.00!! Yea I had to refome them but I did that myself and they are great.
Then Sun. I found a JVC Super Digifine W/touch screen remote for 50.00!!
It's just like new!!
I also found some Criterion VI speakers at a yard sale for .50 cents! RE did the covers and they too are ment!
Makes me want to go yardsaling right now!! Lets keep looking have a great day SEE YAAA.....IMG_0373.jpg

A Kenwood GE-49 equalizer for 10$, a Rotel RCD-930AX (A-M-A-Z-I-N-G sound) for 10$, A Sony STR-AV200e reciever for 30$, a Sanyo RD300 tape deck that I repaired with some alcohol for 10$ (rubber pinch roller bearing was rusty), and about 300 records which were about 50c each :)
Oh yeah, and brand new CDs for 1$ each, including Nirvana, RHCP and some U2. :)

Btw, the Rotel seems to stop every few full CD plays. it just pauses for 2 seconds, the song timer blinks, and then it keeps on running. Dusty laser? other than that its amazing. Heard its an audiophile product.

Best junk store finds

Holy headroom batman! Martin Logan speakers? Rega planar turntable? I gotta move to a different zip-code! Well, to be fair, I have gotten lucky a time or two also.

Pair of near mint Altec Voice of the Theater speakers 27$ for both, St Vince

2 Altec 804B coaxials- god those things are BEAUTIFUL, I forget what they cost me, nearly nothing. St Vince... those things ROCK!

Akai 747 reel to reel tape deck (Kona Hawaii garage sale, ya braddah), 40$, sold on ebay for like 500$.

Museum quality Scott Tube tuner and companion outboard "multiplex" module, little second hand store in Eastern Oregon cow country.

Scott Tube integrated (forget which model but it went for about 650 on eBay, model 296???) actually I got this from an old school electronics repair shop as they were going out of business, I also got set of those Infinity speakers with like 15 emit tweeters and 7 or so 6.5 mid bass drivers, what did they call those? This stuff was just purchased as money makers.

Thrifts were dry today...but did pick up a sanyo plus a35 amp for pals that needed something..tell the truth, kinda surprised by the sheer weight of that thing, and then I plugged it in here and let er loose, wow, pretty impressive machine I thought. Always thought sanyo was kinda trashy but dayummm. Anyways, maybe overpaid maybe not (I dont think so) $65.

Sanyo made a line of equipment or two that was EXCELLENT.

Klipsch Heresy II, consecutive serial numbers (tags still on the back), walnut, no flaws, very good condition, $25.00 for the pair at the Salvation Army thrift store. OK, $26.50 with tax!

went to local thrift today, no 'lectronic gear at all, either good or crappy. as usual.
i did get about 35 used maxell, tdk, sony type II c-90s. as usual, i'll listen to them; if good stuff, i'll keep. if not, i'll record over them.
got a couple of metal tdks, also.

$.25 each.

Welcome to AK and to Canada (even though it's been 5 years already). Nice matching system and the price certainly cannot be beat. I see I've got some competition in the thrifts now 'round here.

Cheers.

Sony STR-V6 - $40 Cdn

Picked this up from a local ad the other day... (I guess I should say "lifted it slowly - with my legs and not my back"). Could've done better as the first thing out of the seller's mouth on the phone was that the price was negotiable. The guilt would have been too much for me however so I insisted on paying his $40 asking price.

This thing cranks out 120wpc or so of raw power. Still slightly more partial to the sound of my Sansui 8080db however, but for shaking the room this is currently the right tool for the job.

Thanks, but i forgot the speakers......so it is a $12 system........ and it came with the manuals for everything, the sony "Wavecatcher" AM antenna, and the FM antenna 300ohm to 75ohm adaptor...

The speakers btw are amazing, classic British speakers in amongst the most junky fiberboard horror boxes ever, i couldent believe my luck when she said $2 as one is damaged and it might not work........

The only missing piece is the Receivers system remote......it WAS there in the shop, but now its gone......i had it in my hand as well........

It probably got trashed with the turntable.......and the trash got moved yesterday......*sigh*
